There are hundreds of types of dances. Dance is basically moving your body in different styles. Some common types of dance are ballet, jazz, tap, modern, and all kinds of waltzes. Dance is very popular and you see it all over the world.
Plays often incorporate dance into them, along with singing. Dancers need to know how to act, in addition to being able to dance. In many ballets, dancers get certain parts called roles. If you get a role, you need to know how you can achieve many emotions. Some kinds of common emotions that dancers have are happiness, anger, sadness, grief, hatred, and being content.
Many of the great Prima Ballerinas have come from Russia. Ballet dancers start as young as the age of two when they begin dancing. The oldest ballerina, Charin Yuthasastrkosol, stopped performing when she was 71 years old. There are also special ballet schools that house ballerinas, while they have class during the day. Many Russians do this because they are very serious about dancing.
Dance can be very dangerous though. If you do a step wrong, it can result in a serious injury. Sometimes, if you keep doing the step incorrectly, it can wear down the tissues and the bones overtime and hurt you when you are older. Ballet dancers also have to keep special care of their feet, because their pointe shoes rub blisters and all kinds of sores on your feet. To fix this problem, dancers put bandages, toe tape, and all different types of pointe shoe pads on their feet. Special kinds of ointments also help this problem. After a pointe class, many of dancers go home and soak their feet in warm water.
When performing, dancers have all kinds of different make-up, hairstyles, and costumes. Usually they hair, make-up, and costume would match the role. The common type of make-up is brown eyeshadow, black or brown eyeliner, red lipstick, pink blush, and black mascara. The usual hair style is a slicked back bun, with a hairnet and bobby pins. The costumes will vary. In class, most dancers wear a bun or a pony tail and have on a leotard with pink tights and the proper dancing shoes.
Most people think that partnering is harder than having a solo. What they don’t know is that a solo is actually much harder. When you are partnering, your partner is usually holding all of the weight of the dancer so she can turn fast and jump high. When you are by yourself, you have to hold all of your muscles and know that if you fall, it isn’t anyone’s fault but your own.
Dance has evolved through the ages, and has been practiced for hundreds of years. New kinds of dance have come, and many old versions have been completely wiped out. Shows are being made, and variations are being created for dancers. Dance is now practiced all over the world, and the future has many new things to hold for dancers.
