Bates College MAG

Lewiston, ME: The ideal school after high school can be summed up in two words: Bates College. Founded in 1855, Bates College is a private four-year, coeducational liberal arts and sciences college. Bates College offers degrees in 29 areas of studies (majors). The school employs 148 full-time professors and the faculty/ student ratio is 1: 10.5. As of 1993, the school enrolled 1515 students who came from 47 states and 22 countries. Ninety-four percent of them live on campus in one of the 37 residence housing options.

Academics isn't the only thing on the minds of a Bates College student. Many enjoy taking part in one (or more) of the 69 clubs and organizations. These include the Legal Society, the Politics Club, the Environmental Coalition, the Bates College TV Association, the Outing Club or the WRBC Radio Association. If athletics are your thing, then you'll surely enjoy your days at Bates. The school offers a wide variety of sports from baseball and football to lacrosse and squash, all of which are played as part of the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). Within this division, the teams compete against schools like Bowdoin, Colby, Hamilton, Middlebury and Tufts as well as Wesleyan and many others.

The costs to attend Bates is a very competitive $23,990 and includes tuition, room and board as well as other charges (books, application fee, etc.). Other expenses total $1,710 and would include travel, supplies, laundry and incidentals.

As you can see, I found Bates the perfect college for me, but whether it's right for you is for you to find out. I'd highly suggest a visit for anyone looking to find the one college that offers everything and more. f
