The Future War

The world hasn’t shocked me in the past twenty years. The only thing that I can’t figure out is how I’m still alive. Thinking back I can count at least ten times I should have died during the wars. The wars began with our nation inventing a new suit of armor and a new bio-engineering project on select soldiers. I was one of the unlucky ones chosen. They sent us to boot camp that made the battlefield seem like a playpen. They want us to get used to all the death, even though our world had been at peace for the past two hundred years. Every two weeks they gave us boosters to increase our strength and when you finished boot camp they gave you an AI to help you. No one new what was going on we were just being good soldiers and following orders.

Out of the thousand chosen only three hundred of us could finish the training and deal with the AI’s. We were split in to squads of seven. Each squad had a Leader, Vehicle Operator, Tech, Sniper, Breacher, Demo and a Medic. I was a vehicle operator, luckily for me most of my squad members were my friends in training. Lopez was the Tech. He wasn’t much of a talker he just liked to get the job done. Sam, the Sniper, she wouldn’t have any problem with beating the crap out of you if you messed with her. James, the Breacher, him and I were exactly the same. We found a joke in everything and were always getting on Sam’s nerves. Our Medic’s name was Ed, we called him Dr. Medic because he had a job as a doctor before he joined and it showed when he patched us up after we got hit. Mickey, the Demo guy, was always over doing his job- if it called for five blocks of plastics he gave you ten. Mickey always said it’s because he wants to make sure the target is gone but we all knew it was just because he liked explosions. Our Leader, York, was no older then the rest of us but when the bullets stared to fly, he could get us through it with out breaking a sweat.

We were squad Epsilon. When word got out of the project every army in all the nations started to create their own “Freelancers” as they came to call us.

A squad that we trained with was the least likely to work together as a team, but I later found out that they were perfect for each other. The nick-name of there leader was Manager, because he never did anything. Their Breacher always liked to keep his shotgun close to him, so he earned the name Shoty. Their Sniper, Mitt, could not hit a space ship form point blank range. We spent most of our time trying to figure out how he made it though training, we still haven’t come up with anything. The Vehicle Operator name was Brock, he was one of the dumbest people you could meet in the military, but he was also one of the funniest too. Their Tech , Janckens, was a wired little man, he was always brown noising people, and it got really annoying. There Medic, Casey, was even weirder the amount of people the survived having him has their medic was zero, still can not figure out how he got in too. The most normal one of them all, as I’ve been told, was there Demo man, but he was killed in a training accident that also kill Lopez.

Lopez was doing some work on a Kodak, our main battle tank, when a one of the tank rounds went off after their Demo guy set off an explosion.

The investigation found out that some of his wire crossed over with the wires of the tank rounds. They still don’t have a Demo man and we don’t have a Tech guy to fix out vehicle. Due to that our teams were put together. After that we train and train some more, waiting for the day we all knew would come. The day we went to war.

Our first mission was to infiltrate an enemy base and plant bombs on the pillars and bring it down. It was to be an early morning strike. Sam and Mitt were to leave before every one else and take up over watch, well we are to arrive a hour later by drop ship. We landed, just as Sam toke out the guards around our drop area. They told us that we had ten minutes to get in and set the charges. We quickly got in to the building, we split in to are squads and went to the pillars we had to destroy. Manager and his team ran in to little resistance. It seem that the ones we had to blow up were right through the barracks. York had Mickey throw his frags down the hall, wheal at the same time he had James and I lay down fire on any one who tried to throw them back.

We had five minutes to plant the explosive and get back to the Landing zone. Mickey got them planted and we ran to the exit. On the way we meet Manager and his team, then Sam got on the radio and told us that reinforcement were coming in and that we had enemy troops out side the doors. York had James and Shorty kick the door open and go to town with their shotguns. As we moved to the Landing Zone Sam and Mitt proved cover as the moved to the Landing Zone. We all got in and as soon as we were up in the air Mickey hit the switch and the base when up in flames.

As we went on more mission we grow closer and be came more of a family. We always joked around with Sam and Brock since they stared dating. We saw our family growing bigger and smaller with every battle as we lost and gain new friends. Eventfully it caught up to are original gang of friends.

We went on a mission that toke a turn for the worst, it was to be an easy smash and grab on the Kamasy’s ( the only enemy left in the battle) base. It was to get a piece of intelligence that could end the war. We were to attack the covey that’s were transporting it before they got to the base and after we had it we were to blow the base like normal. It was a normal set up Sam and Mitt provided cover as the rest of us would attack the convey, but there was a little twist. I would be operating a Kodak tank and would lead the attack.

We waited and waited but noting came. Just are we called central command to see if they had eyes on the convoy but as soon as we reached them rockets came in and it were Sam and Mitt were perched As soon as it came in Brock yelled over the radio. I told him that I could see them and they were fine but, that we were not and we had to focus on the fight. Some how the base detected us and were sending troops and artillery at us.
I fired the Kodaks 102mm cannon and took out one of the turrets that was firing at us. As Sam recovered she said that she saw a unfriendly looking bird coming in. We yelled at command to get us a chopper out of here, but they told us that the convoy was coming and told us to try to get the Intel. I said that I would go and get it so in the tank well the chopper picked them up. I fired the main gun at the front vehicle and the last one. Making a choke hold on the main part of the convey. I then moved in to the truck that we beloved hat the Intel in it. As I hopped out Sam toke a shot at a tango that was about to give me a buck shot to the back. She said that I owe her one. AS I went to the truck I was shocked at what I found it was not your normal Intel. It was Jenna, Jenna was a normal marine that we worked with a few times and that I have become quite friendly with. We did not have time to cheach up, as we turned around the tank got destroyed by a rocket. We looked around for another ride to get to the chopper before they had to take off, luckily we found a jeep that was not badly damaged by the rocket bridge. We drove to the chopper as our teams gave us cover. The information that Jenna gave us from her time spent as a prisoner helped us end the war soon after that. We still keep in contact after or time in the corp. was over, and with that it ends the story of me, Wash Tomas.
