Sea Turtles
It was a hot, peaceful day when I first emerged from the egg. The sound of the waves was beckoning me and my 200 brothers and sisters to come towards the cool safety of the water. However, from the moment that we were born, death was the only thing that was waiting for us. I watched as my brothers and sisters were dragged from what had once been our nest, lifted into the air by seagulls, or dragged away into the sand’s depths by crabs. Their cries pierced the salty air as I frantically tried to toddle towards the water on my new, tender flippers.
I was the only one to survive. As my flippers touched the water and I sank down into its depths, I could still hear the call of the seagulls above me.
