Math Tests
I twirl my pencil around my fingers, staring determinedly at the paper in front of me. The X’s seem like Y’s and the Y’s look like Z’s. Maybe I’m just seeing it wrong. I look around and see everyone immersed in what they’re doing. Dozens of different equations float through my head, luring me into a trap.
“No,” I tell myself. “That’s not the answer to this.”
“Erica, silence. We’re taking a test,” Mr. Kay warns, his polished shoes clacking on the marble floor.
“Sorry,” I mumble. I duck my head towards my test and continue scribbling random answers down.
