Once upon a time there was a little cafe lost in the middle of Netherlands. The gold lights lighted the streets like fireflies in the night. What would be more pleasant than that? The gentle lights left space for the lovers in the back. What would be more charming than that? The few people in the streets met at the cafe for a last-minute dinner with their beloved ones. What would be more idyllic than that? The stars appeared to embrace people leaving them a feeling of peace. What would be more delightful than that?

That’s what I wish would have happened that night.

Sadly, that’s not the case.

That night the perfect scenario for catastrophe occurred, for calamity. A street in the back, as dark as the villain's heart where not even lights dared to go. A few people were out, but they were all too tired or having too much fun to care about what could happen to others. That left the stars as the only witness of what happened that night.

That night a woman went out; she walked through the streets wearing her scarlet dress. But she never returned home, she vanished in the darkness. The only thing she left behind was her scarlet dress. A dress whose color used to be as bright as a rose, but that night turned as dark as rotten blood. The woman was never found, some say that the darkness ate her because her dress was too bright for that place.

Sadly, me and my sisters were the only witnesses that night, we are in constant surveillance, and we light the remotest places, but we are mute after all. I guess no one will ever know what really happened that night. What’s more poetic than that?

This piece is inspired by the artwork Cafe Terrace at Night, by Vincent Van Gogh. It's an ekphrastic piece.
