People say high school is a place were a teenager finds themselves; a place where a person can find their group of friends with common interests. When you hear the word “cliques” you mostly think of the fictional groups of people you see in movies like High School Musical or Mean Girls. Examples of these cliques you see on television would be like the popular kids, the geeks, the jocks, the cheerleaders, the band kids, the drama kids and so on; well the cliques at my school are pretty much the same as they are on television. In my case I am not part of just one group of people, I tend to have many different kinds of friends that are part of their own classified cliques. I have noticed four different kinds of friends in my life: my school friends, soccer friends, theatre friends, and my best friends.
A school friend is a friend that I see in my classes’ everyday at school. I meet these friends by sitting next to them in class or being put into a group with them for a project in class. For example in my history class, I have a lot of friends in that class because my teacher creates a new seating chart every three weeks. But these kinds of friends I most likely would never hang out with outside of school. It’s not that I don’t like them or anything, but school kinds of friends I can only picture being in class rather than at a sleep over. Although, sometimes I get lucky with school friends, sometimes I meet a person that I will genuinely like and can picture myself having numerous slumber parties with in the future.

I have been playing soccer since I was four years old; therefore I have picked up a few friends along the way. I play on a competitive soccer team all year long so I spend four to seven days a week with my teammates at practice during the week as well as on the weekends. The bond between teammates is quite a special bond, which makes it much more different than any other normal friendship. My teammates and I go through wins and loses together. We endure running miles upon miles together. We experience happiness, sadness, disappointment, frustration and glee together, but no matter what we always pull through the thick and the thin and come out stronger in the end. But I feel like there is a difference between teammates and friends. You are meant to have mindless fun with your friends as well as use their shoulder to cry on when needed. Don’t get me wrong playing soccer with my girls is fun, but mostly our main focus is to work hard at being better and to prepare ourselves for future tournaments, and hard work is not always necessarily fun. Soccer friends aren’t always there to listen to your drama, a lot of the times they are just focused on being a better player.
On the other hand, my theatre friends are probably my favorite group of friends. When I am with my theatre friends, I am reminded that I can do what I want without being afraid of being judged. That’s the beautiful thing about performing, you can’t judge art. I am constantly laughing, dancing, singing and having the time of my life when I am at rehearsal with my fellow theatre geeks. I am able to express myself through songs, dances, and acting and my theatre friends are always there to be able to experience my performances first hand which helps them understand me more than many of my other groups friends.

Finally there my best friends; I can not necessarily put them into their own group alone. The truth is, I have a best friend from each and every one of the groups I just classified. I have a best friend from my soccer team, one from theatre, and a best friend from school. I may be friends with various different groups of people, but my closest friends I can count with my fingers; I know that for a fact. Although I don’t like to have one best friend set in stone because people are constantly changing. I am changing every day, I am not the same person I was freshman year, which means neither are my friends I have today. Some of my best friends from freshman year I don’t even talk to anymore; but in the there will always be that one constant person that is always there with you through the years, and I know exactly who that person is. That friend is much too special to just be counted on your ten fingers, that person deserves an entire hand of their own.
