Different Ways
Susan grew up with girl, skyler, they were closer then the twists in a French braid. They were just about to start 6th grade, but they both made a promise to stay best friends!
School Started as usual except they only had eighth period together, normally they sat together at lunch but today Susan didn’t come, skyler sat with some old friends she hadn’t talked to in a while, they all sat there together as if they were strangers meeting for the first time. Skyler knew this seemed to be a daily thing now, but she kept it to herself and went on quietly without letting Susan know how she felt.
As time passed on they slowly drifted apart. Skyler noticed that Susan had a new friend Jessica. Skyler finally couldn’t take the fact that she was losing her best friend to a girl who didn’t even care about Susan, as she claimed she did. Skyler finally lost all patience, and decided to text her and see what was going on.
Susan replied “I’m just meeting new people, I don’t fit in with the girls you sit with, I can actually trust them, and they’re there for me for everything, like my problems and homework.”
Skyler knew it was a lie; all the girls she sat with were once Susan’s friends too, so she just read the message.
Skyler knew she had lost her best friend that day but she acted as if it was okay, she sat quite as a mouse in class, she didn’t talk to many people anymore just a few, her smile changed, people had told her before she was never going to stay but what skyler couldn’t accept was that her family took Susan in just for her to leave when school started, But Skyler continued to say everything was great.
Skyler went about a month without getting a text from Susan, then on a Tuesday Susan randomly texted her, she wanted to fix things.
Susan’s text to Skyler; “Hey, I know we kind of started the year off bad but I’m really sorry and I miss you being my best friend, I need you, will you ever forgive me? We have too many memories to let go.
Skyler replied “No, I’m fine, I’ve made my way for better things and yes we do have so many memories to let go, but why make more when you will let those go too? You have better friends now.
They never heard from each other again.
