After school yesterday I was all alone and cold, bundled up in my new black pea coat wearing what my mother would say was "too much cherry chapstick." I was walking around and watching my breath in the winter air when I decided to explore the old theater on the outskirts of campus. I pushed open the rusted metal doors and listened as they creaked shut behind me. I walked up onto the old stage and looked out where the audience would be seated. The utter lack of presence was chilling and I could actually feel the empty air weighing on me which was worse than the stare of a thousand pairs of eyes. It was so lonely, so not what this space was meant for. Sad really. I walked off stage and into the middle of the seating arena. As I sat down, I heard the rustling of paper under me. It turned out to be a neatly folded letter. Initially, I didn't think to open it and read it because I thought that to be an invasion of privacy. However, after a moment, I decided that this letter deserved to be read and it would be a travesty not to. I carefully unfolded it as if it were hundred year old papyrus that would crumble beneath my fingers if I were too rough. I began reading the loopy cursive words. It was so eloquently written and thought provoking. It was obvious a great amount of time and emotion went into writing this genius and it very much paid off. Upon completion, I couldn't help but smile. This person, whoever it may be, was very intelligent and thoughtful, I had wished to meet them. It's not everyday that you stumble across something so magnificent and enticing. I folded it up again neatly and placed it back on the seat where I had found it, walking out of the theatre and back into the chilly weather. I smiled as I walked and thought about the words on that page. “I cannot conquer time, I cannot conquer time,” The words seemed to stick with me. I felt relieved to know this person exists in the world.
