It was late night. Around 11:00. She placed her handbag on the red couch of Billy’s Diner and made her way across the smell of freshly baked tarts to the bathroom. She made a mental note to buy the lemon tart, though she hated lemon. Once she locked the door behind her, she relaxed her lungs and removed her beige beanie, letting her dark brown hair breathe. Looking in the mirror, she tucked away her bangs, revealing a scar that brought back the worst of memories. It hurt. A lot. But that’s all she ever did. She checked her phone, it was 11:11. Memories, thoughts, and emotions were running through her at the speed of lightning, until she closed her eyes and made one, last, wish.

The author's comments:

When writing this set piece, I completely let my imagination flow. Without noticing, I included bits and pieces of my own life, which makes this story very emotional for me. Something that I love about it is how I keep the reader is suspense, leaving out major details that make you want to read on.

I like that she bought lemon even though she doesn't even like it.
