In Your Mind
In Your Mind
Paul steps into his small office in Portland Oregon, and got to work. Whenever he needs something, he always knew exactly where it was, but something, was out of place. When he opens up his file cabinet to get some information on a client, a note slipped out. As he bent down to pick up the note, his colleague walks into the office, and Paul quickly stows the note in his briefcase. After a brief hello, they both get to work. Three hours later, Paul walks down to the burrito store two blocks down. As he walks people are staring at him, and following him. He finds this unnerving, but dismisses the thought and gets on the burrito line. Immediately, there is a gigantic line for burritos, and the workers are very happy. “Something’s up,” Paul says to himself. This was definitely not part of the norm.
The next day, everything was back to normal.
Paul parks his 1987 Corvette next to his suburban house in Portland Oregon, and quickly slips inside. Then he remembers the note, and quickly read it.
Meet us at the top of Multnomah Falls
at Midnight on Thursday.
You must come. There is
danger coming.
-T.O.G.O.S.
In a cave under the top of the falls, lay the base of T.O.G.O.S., the organization that had the capability to understand what was happening to the people. Their leader, Dr. Collins, is the world’s best biologist, who mysteriously “disappeared” ten years ago. His crew consists of twenty of recruits, and his second in command, Justin Sharpe. He also has his friend Xiangyun Hirabayashi, an innovator from Japan. This great man had developed the most advanced line of stealth machines in the world. He sells the lower class vehicles to the government for ultra-classified Search and Destroy missions.
He is also a microscope designer, and has made a microscope so strong, you can see atoms clearly. Dr. Collins is very lucky to have him on board.
“Vat time is it?” The German scientist asks.
“11:37. Carter should be coming soon.” Dr. Hirabayashi.
“Very good, very good.”.
Paul is on his way to the falls. he pulls into the lot, and starts the trek. Forty five minutes later, Paul reaches the top of the falls. He is following the lights, when he sees a shadow and quickly turns around. He doesn't see anything but hears the bushes rustling, and assumes it was just an animal. He enters the cave, and is quickly led to the main cavern, where Dr. Collins is waiting.
“ Ahh, Carter. You made it.” says Collins.
“Yes, I’m here. What is this all about?”
“Well, you’ll see soon.”
Frank Peterson, a member of one of the S.W.A.T. teams got a note from Collins as well. This one says
Bring us one of the “strange”
people. Bring him to the top o
f Multnomah Falls at 7:00 A.M. Friday.
- T.O.G.O.S
Frank’s just trying to be helpful, and he thinks that they are just doctors.
Paul wakes up in the morning to the smell of eggs and bacon. He drifts to where the smell is coming from and finds Justin preparing breakfast with another man. He sits down at the table and waits for them to finish. Then, Frank walks in with one of the “strange” in his arms.
“Don't worry, I knocked him out. He’s not dead.” He says.
“You better take him to the Doctor. He’s down the hall, second door to your left.
The room is painted with a warm red, and is furnished with classic style furniture. Dr. Collins is sitting behind his very elegant old oak desk.
“Ahh, the specimen.” Says Collins. “Is he dead?”
“No, but he’s out cold” replied Peterson.
“That is unfortunate”
“Why is it unfortunate?”
“Because we shall be conducting some experiments on him.”
“Bring him to the lab” commands Dr. Collins.
He pushes a button on his desk, and summons Paul to the lab. Paul sprints to the lab, and was there before Collins and Peterson were.
“Carter. I see you are eager to start work”
“Yes sir. It’s very exciting.” Paul replies.
“Frank, bring the man inside.
He did as he was told. One they were all inside, Dr. Collins immediately got to work.
“Catching him was very easy” Frank began. “I approached him slightly from the side, and he didn’t even see me. I socked him in the jaw, and he dropped like a rock.”
“Hmm... Very interesting.” Collins says. “I wonder what it means?”
“Maybe a bacteria is able to travel through the cornea, and reach the brain.” Carter suggests. “Yes, that would explain why Frank was not seen when abducting the specimen.”
The answer is revealed in a blood test. The bacteria traveled through the eye to the brain, and took control of the body. It travels through air so it spreads very quickly.
Suddenly, Frank Peterson starts hyperventilating, and collapses on the floor. Dr Collins and Paul quickly grab for their gas masks and chemical suits, but it’s too late. Their vital functions stop working, and they immediately fall into a never ending sleep.
This could be a worldwide pandemic.
You are never safe.
