In Love With A Killer
In Love With A Killer
“Get off me you little runt!,” yelled Billy, my mom's brother. I was kicking, scratching, and even trying to bite him.
“Ugh! You hit me, you son of sunflower-seeds.” He threw me against the wall, making my head throb in pain. I started to cry while I was lying on the floor, feeling like a semi-truck had just struck me .
“Why in heaven's name, Billy, what are you doing?” my mother asked.
“That “heevlen” of yours took the remote from me and was back talkin', so I popped her in the mouth. Hell, Radonna, you know I'm gettin' to old for this stuff. I told her to stop, but she didn't listen to me, so I gave the beatin' that she needed.” I was still weeping when my mother came over to me, “You need to apologize to your uncle Billy for back talking him.”
“No, how could you? You're the worst mother ever! I hate your guts, you make me sick to my stomach. I hope you just rot in a dirty hole!,” I screamed at her. Tears running down my face I ran outside tripping over the steps making myself look even more bruised. I fumbled around for hours trying to calm down not knowing where I was headed. I decided to go to my boyfriend, Leon's house. Once I reached the house I saw a big brown bear sitting on the porch. I blinked my eyes two times making sure what I thought I saw was real, but as I got closer I noticed it was just Bear, Leon's dog. “Denise, Leon, Grandma, Earl anybody home?,” I said.
Screaming at the top of his lungs Leon had said, “I'm upstairs babe!” I lightly jogged up the stairs bumping my lip on the second stair to the top. Opening the door with one hand and holding my mouth with the other I noticed he was playing Black Cops 2.

“Hey babe. What's up?,” he asked me.
Pacing back and forth around the room I said, “We need to talk right now.” He paused the game and looked towards me, looking confused.
“What happened now babe?,” he said cautiously. I started to shake, telling him everything from the time I woke up to the time I got to his house. Leon was furious. His eyes were shinning like diamonds in a dark and deep hole.
“You're staying with me tonight. I don't want you to worry about nothing okay?,” he said.
“Okay,” I replied.
“I'll call your mom and mine too, to let them know what is going on.” I was so relieved that all I could do was cry in his arms and tell him how much I loved him. The following morning I went home nervous and scared of what was going to happen once I walked in the door. Stepping into the house quietly I saw my mom slumped on the couch covering her eyes. From what I could see it looked like she had been crying.
“What's wrong mom?,” I asked her. Looking at me with her cold cruel eyes, she finally said, “Your Uncle Billy got shot last night getting into his car. I needed some milk and...and...” she started to stutter, “...and someone shot him coming out of the store.” At this point she was crying and I was standing there in the living room on the tan rug trying to think of something to say, but nothing would come out. A good five minutes had passed by and I decided to say, “I'm sorry.”
“You're not sorry. I bet you're full of joy and can't wait to laugh in my face,” she said to me. Every word that came out of her mouth felt like a fire ball shooting directly at my chest knocking me back further and further. I grabbed the phone off the coffee table, “I hope you bring that back. I got to finish making some calls,” she said.
“I will, I just have to call Leon and tell him what is going on,” I answered. I went upstairs into the bathroom, called Leon and asked him if he knew anything about my Uncle's death. With a little hesitation in his voice he asked, “Yeah...Why?...Does the cops have an idea of who it could be or something?”
“No, but you sound suspicious, do you know anything?, I asked him curiously.
“I don't just know anything, I was there, I did it last night while you was sleeping”, he answered calmly. Once I heard him say that he was the one that did it that killed my uncle I was frozen from head to toe, like I could see the whole thing happening in full compact action. Standing there looking at my reflection in the mirror, the phone falling to the floor, all I could think was that I was in love with a killer. Blinking several times Leon finally said quietly, “Did you hear what I said babe?” Analyzing everything that happened in the past few minutes my brain was fried. I was scared to say something back, because what if I had said the wrong thing and made him upset, how would he react?
“Are you going to answer me?,” his voice getting a little louder now.
“I...I...” stumbling over words “I... don't know what to say to you Leon,” I replied.
“Wow!...You don't know what to say, not even that you love me,” shouting. I knew he was upset at me, but I didn't know what to say. I didn't want him to be angry, especially not at me, but I mean would you really get upset over something like that. I wondered for a long time about if he would come after me if I had left him, or if I told the police what would happen to him, or even if he really loved me and did it to prove his love for me.
“Why did you do it? What if you would've gotten caught you could go to prison for life, You want to be with me don't you?,” asking him very anxiously.
“If I didn't love you I wouldn't have killed him or risk my neck for you. I'm going to be with you for life and nothing can change that do you understand? That's how much I love you,” he said. Trying to think of what I should do or even say back I started to cry.
“Why are you crying for? Aren't you happy?,” he said starting to sniffle too.
“I am happy but I'm trying to think of our future together that's all.” The next day I found out Leon had been arrested, for the suspicion of murdering my uncle. I went to his court date which was that following day. I walked in the room seeing a judge at the podium and Leon sitting in a wooden chair. Looking back at me he said, “Everything's going to be alright I promise you.” The crankiness in the judges voice I started to shiver.

“Young man, do you know why your appointed here today?,” he asked Leon.
“The officer told me I was a suspect in Billy Reynolds death sir,” he said sweating heavily.
“You were seen on the night of the murder coming out of the Grocery store right after Mr. Reynolds had come out. You are charged with attempted murder, manslaughter, and murder in the second degree. I sentence you forty-five years with possibly having parole hearing, if you are good and make better choices.” I started to cry over exaggerating it.
“Miss, do you have a problem?”
Still crying I managed to say, “He said he was sorry, won't that be enough. I love this man. We have big dreams together. We were going to get married in the spring time, around my birthday, and have two kids, and be one big happy family By locking him up your ruining the chance of that every coming about. I don't want to see my fiance, soon to be my husband locked up for that long your honor. He did this, because I was getting abused at my home and nothing good was coming out of it....Please just have mercy on his soul I beg you!” He looked at me with a confused look. While scratching his head with his left hand he said, “I don't usually have sympathy for anyone that comes in my court room, but I am willing to take your case into consideration. Mr. Mills I sentence you to have five years of probation and to stay in the state for at least ten years. I hope you enjoy your freedom. I don't want to see you back in my court room, because if I do, you will go straight to prison.
“Oh my goodness, Thank you.....Thank you your honor!!!....You won't ever see him back in here again, I can promise you that.” Leon walked over to me after the officer took the hand cuffs of him, gave me a bear hug and a nice smooch. I have never been so happy in my life. I was so scared that he was going to prison and I didn't want that. When I think about how my life could have been different without him, I knew it was gonna be hard, miserable, and I would have became very depressed. I'm relieved that he's not in jail and that we are still together like he said we would be. Now I actually can say, I really know how much my fiance really loves me! I am very lucky to have a man like Leon Eugiene Mills! I wouldn't trade a day not having him there right beside me, every step of the way.
