The woman of 2082
Scene 1: In her living Quarters
Narrator:
In a state divided and built upon the ideal of sexism, lives a girl that has the potential to change the world as well as the people around her. Her strength is like no other. Whether it be wrestling wild animals for food or fighting the city’s greatest warrior for props, she has what it takes to overcome any battle she faces.
The way she was raised most likely plays a big part in why she is not like the other woman of her area. At the age of 3 she lost her mother to a severe illness. Being that her mom was the only family she had, she was forced to go out and live on her own. Caves, trees and under bridges was home for a while, until one day she came across a group of bears that eventually became her family. And every day she spent with them prepared her for what she faces now. Not only does her state depend on her, but she also has risk that could greatly affect her if she isn’t careful. The final day of combat has come and she has conflict with her surroundings, as well as herself, that she must sort out within the next 24 hours. She must make her decisions.
JodI:
What will I do? She contemplates. I know that I have the ability to save my people from being conquered. But if I do go out and try, I could risk my true identity being revealed. I mean, I’ve heard too many stories about what happens to women that try to meet or exceed the same level as a man. And even though I’m stronger than three men put together, society still wouldn’t care. It would still remain in the man’s favor. But maybe I could be the first to come along and change that? Or maybe I’d just end up like the rest? What will I do? Will I put my life on the line to save that of so many others? Or will I just flee to the next state over and start a new, Normal, life?
NARRATOR:
March 14th, 2082. The day she has feared most has come. She must use her best judgment and choose her decision wisely. Because whatever she decides, will change a life in some way or another.
Getting rest wasn’t as easy as it would seem for someone that had been fighting 10 to 14 hours a day, all day, for the past 6 months. And after tossing and turning for hours and hours, she finally found the peace to get her sleep. But the next morning she felt as if she had more sleep than ever before in life. And she woke up with a special thought in mind. A thought that hadn’t crossed her mind since the time she was living on her own as an adolescent. She thought back to how tough things were for her and her mother growing up early on. And how her mother could, and would, always make the impossible happen. Whether it was staying up all night hunting to make sure there was something to eat for breakfast, or simply finding shelter, her mother would do it. Not because she would be placed in jail or even killed for not taking care of her child. But because it was the brave and righteous thing to do. And with that, Jodi knew just what she had to do.
And that day, Jodi went out onto the battle field focused. She was determined to make an impact that would not only change things for her state, but for herself as well. And she would do it with that same persistence and bravery her mother had. She didn’t just have to go out and diminish everything that was a threat to her people. And she didn’t even have to do this for her mother. It was bigger than that. She had to face this challenge and succeed to prove her position as a woman, and a person, in her society. It was the entire female species she was fighting for. And ultimately, that’s what her mother would’ve wanted anyway. So with the last life of the opposing side taken at the hands of her, she raised her head to the sky. And after months of hiding it, she finally took off her head piece and revealed her true gender. Her true identity. She was a woman, and a proud one at that. And no man or power could deny her greatness. So with that, woman became equal to men in society. And Jodi went down in history as the first woman to accomplish something even greater than a man. She was a hero. Not just to the women of her state. But to her mother, and herself.
