?War?
War
The smell was terrible; it was a sour smell that burned the inside of my nostrils. There was smoke everywhere it burned my eyes and blurred my vision Screaming men filled my ears all around me. I can’t find my captain; I panicked and start to slowly walk forward hoping I will find him. War is rough, it’s scary. Terrible traps await me around every corner, waiting for me to fall into one of them and lose the biggest battle of all…my life.
I stumble upon a body lying motionless, I can tell by his uniform he is one of our men. I wipe his face off with my shaking cold hands. I quickly realize this is my friend. He had been with me through the good and the bad and now I need to repay him. His chest is barely rises and falling with each little breath he takes. He has tears slowly streaming down his face and I bend down and tell him everything is going to be okay. I start to check his body to see what has happened to him and what I see makes me gasp. A bullet about 2 inches thick has blown through his leg leaving a jagged mess. I take off my belt and wrap it tightly around his thigh over the wound hoping maybe it will stop the bleeding. I know if I don’t bring him to safety he will surly die so I pick him up like a baby and carry him. I can’t see anyone around me I am so confused but I know I have one duty right now, and that is to save my friend. We continue walking we both haven’t eaten in 2 days so we are very weak and tired. I know I can’t carry him much longer, I feel the cool tears running down my face and I know this is it he will die soon. I was just about to set him down when my foot gets caught in a thin line of wire. I know I have just walked into my enemies trap. I wait to see what trap I have set off and sure enough Bullets fly by my head! Small bombs explode at my feet. I still at least try to carry my friend to safety, I run as fast as I can, but I am too slow, bullets lodge into my legs and I stumble to the ground the pain is unbearable and I scream. My friend lies right in front of me and I watch him take one last deep breath before he is gone. I try to crawl to him but a small black circle is coming and I know this is it. I’m done. I know I have worked hard for my country and I have done my duty right.
I wake with a jolt covered in sweat back in my bedroom. My wife is shaking me trying to get me to wake up. I have tears running down my face and she is telling me it was just a dream! But this time it wasn’t a dream…my best friend is still dead and I still tried to save him everything was the exact same except I had lived through the war.
