Family
Up until the 5ht grade my parents and I lived a happy life together. Every Sunday we would go out for ice cream in my father’s cherry red 1959 Cadillac. Everything seemed perfect until one day my mother came home crying. I went by her side asking what was wrong but he would ignore me. I tried as much as I could to know why she was crying but she didn’t listen. Later on my mother got on the phone, I heard her talking to my grandmother and was hysterically crying out to my mother “Mom he cheated on me! It’s over! He was with another woman! Were getting a divorce!” When I heard the word divorce my heart shattered I didn’t know what to do. Soon after I went to my room to think about what my mother had said. After a good two hours my mother finally came up to my room. I could see her eyes blood shot red from all the crying she endured. She walked to me clutching her hands
and said to me ever so slowly “Honey, your father and I aren’t going to be together anymore.” I looked up at her then down at me feet. With a warm touch she patted my back reassuring me that everything was going to be okay.
Years passed and my life hasn’t been the same since. I lived with my mother in a two bedroom apartment with her new boyfriend Gerry. Gerry was a big broad shouldered man whom worked in construction, he also had a daughter named Lucy. Lucy in the other hand was a petite blue eyes girl with curly blond hair. She was considered a Starchild by her father. He would buy her whatever she wanted as long as she would bat her eyelashes and gave him the puppy dog face that can make even the most greedy man in the world buy her something. On the other hand I was shy, had long thick black hair, and Thick gray glasses. My mother would always pay attention To Gerry and Gerry would always pay attention to both my mother and his daughter he would try to connect with me once in awhile but I never felt a connection.
my mother only lasted year and a half with Gerry but I still saw Lucy around school.eventually she started to tell people that my mother and I have ruined her and her fathers life. All throughout the 8th grade Lucy would make mean comments about my mom and myself.over the summer I didn't have to worry about Lucy because I would be with my dad. Going with my dad gave me a big break from Lucy and all her mean comments.
after the summer was over I Went back to my old small apartment with my mother. It was my first day at Watsonville high. Knowing that it was a small town, I had a feeling that Lucy was going to be around I would always think to myself "hopefully I don't see Lucy." A couple days passed and I thought I was going to finally be safe from all the hurtful comments. but sure enough I was wrong ,I saw Lucy with a big group of friends gossiping about all the new clothes and shoes everyone had gone. I tried to escape without being detected but I stumbled across a near by trash can and that is when they all turned around and a big gust of laughter filled the air. They walked over to me and I heard " well, well, well. We meet again, loser"
As i was picking up my books Lucy's other friends joined In. "Ugh look at those overalls and those glasses!" Janet said, one of Lucy's main followers.
Then followed Stacy, she use to be unpopular and a "loser" until One day her dad got a lot of money for inventing some sort of machinery. Not knowing what to say she told me " um, I hate you'r glasses." Then she looked at Lucy and Janet for approval, they nodded back at her.
They eventually moved out of the real world and into the cyber world. They would post mean status about me and would Photoshop my head onto an animals body.I tried to ignore Lucy and her friends as much as possible.they would torment me all throughout high school and I didn't understand why. Throughout the day One by one would tell me a mean comment. The comments finally escalated, Lucy Would now tell me "my dad hates you and your mom, your mom only went out with my dad for the money."
the next couple months they would put mocking status is about how I didn't have money and I couldn't afford anything. Lucy knew many personal things about me And my mother. She knew that my mom work Two jobs. She knew i couldn't afford much of what she could. "All she wears is high waters. I bet her mom works in the streets picking up cans." Lucy said. I felt as if I couldn't be in anyone's presents because of my appearance.
One cold rainy night my mother left her prescription painkillers On the counter table. I took off the safety cap and I Filled my hand with the little white pills, tossed my head back, and swallowed them whole. All i remember is drifting off and seeing someones black silhouette. Shortly after I woke up in the emergency room hooked up to many machines, with my mom and dad Right next to me. I felt my family once again, reconnected.
We never spoke of that day again. I have never told anybody the reason why I wanted to kill myself so bad. I have now come forth to tell my story so that hopefully this doesn't happen again. Is someone tells you you can never amount to anything, prove them wrong. Always know the person before judging.
