It was a Saturday night and I was just roaming the streets for no apparent reason whatsoever. There was a rotten odor that sort of lured me into the dark alley way. As I walked into the pitch black passageway where the only light that guided me was the light of my phone.
As I got deeper into the alley, the whiff of rotten flesh grew stronger. The air got stiff and the smell of mildew started to mix in with the rotten smell. I outstretched my hand to the wall, so I can sense where I was exactly. A warm liquid dripped onto my hand and when I raised it under my phone light. It was blood.
The metallic smell of blood stung my nostrils. I descended deeper into the alley way. More blood splatters on the walls started to come more frequently. Finally at the end of the alley way, the smell became too much to handle. The rotten smell twisted with a disgusting sense of …strawberries? Now closer to the source; I could smell a scent of strawberries mixed into the scent of blood.
I scanned the area. Trying to figure out the exact place well this horrid smell was coming from. My eyes stopped at the dumpster, where the ruby blood was splattered the most. I picked up a stray metal pole, which was lying in the far corner of the alley way when I heard a small rummaging coming from the dumpster.
Shoving my phone into my pocket, I snuck towards the dumpster, quietly. The blight smell got more sickening each step I took. Raising the chilling pole above my head, I slowly lifted up the dumpster’s lid with great caution. The sound that came from it stopped abruptly. The lid wide open now, a wrenching stench was beyond foul. I covered my nose and mouth with hand, and peeked in.
I stumbled back in fear. Falling over onto my butt. Gaping at the top of the dumpster, a small whimper screeched out.
“Mama…mama?”
I scurried onto my feet trying to get away…get away from that thing. I began to run towards the entrance…
“Maaaaama.” More whimpering sounds came out. I stepped in a muddy puddle. Its water splashing me in the face , telling me that I’m still in reality. Sweat pouring from my forehead making my face soaked with more water.

“ Mama? Mama ? Where are you going.
I can see it now . The entrance, my only exit of this madness. A smile stretched on my face as I imagined the smells of the normal city life. The fast food aromas floating out into the busy streets, the wet rain that fell every now a then. Tears of joy slipped from my eyes. Finally…finally free at last.

I spoke too soon.
