A Rising Star
“Come on Jamie,” said Haley.
“It is time for you to get up and get ready for your first day of basketball practice.
Okay mom,” Jamie said.
“We know you wouldn’t miss it for the world,” said Nathan.
“I know, I know. I am up, said Jamie, as the shower turns on.
Jamie took a quick shower and then started getting ready for his first day.
What would you like for breakfast,” asked Haley.
“French toast and hash browns,” Jamie replied.
“Okay, Jamie,” Haley said.
Jamie came down stairs and ate his breakfast, got his gym bag and headed off for school in his 2013 Chevrolet Camaro.
When Jamie got to school he went through his first five periods of school really fast. Then lunch came around and he went to go sit with all of his friends in the lunchroom. His friend’s names were Tim, Nathan, Taylor, and Scott, the other four starters for the basketball team. That day they were eating chicken fried steak for school, his parent’s favorite meal. After he was done eating he went and changed into his gym clothes because he had P.E. next and what they mainly did was lift weights. As soon as the bell rang he went through P.E. and his next class really fast. During his last class of the day College Spanish, his principal and Superintendent came in and got him from his class. They brought him in and sat him down in meeting room. Mrs. Stuckey the principal told Jamie that his grandmother was going to come to talk to him with herself and Mr. Jase the superintendent in about five minutes.
When his grandmother got to the school and came into the meeting room and sat down with Mrs. Stuckey, and Mr. Jase he noticed that his grandmother Grace was crying. He was trying to figure out why she was crying.
Grace said, that while his mom and dad were going to their meeting on the other side of town, they ran a red light and a car hit them on the left side, while another hit the right.
“Are they okay,” Jamie asked?
“This is the bad part,” Mr. Jase said.
“Haley and Nathan aren’t going to make it; they were hospitalized for 20 minutes and died,” Grace said. “I came as soon as I could so you could talk to them one last time,” Grace said.
“I am very sorry Jamie,” Mrs. Stuckey said.
Jamie stood up walked out of the room, grabbed his stuff from his locker, got in his Camaro and drove off. He ran red light after red light, but another car never hit him. He didn’t get how his parents can run one just one red light and they are completely crushed and they are taken from this world.
After Jamie was done driving around, he went to the funeral home where his parents bodies were and he started praying by his bodies and then he went home did his homework and laid awake in his bed all night thinking about his parents. The next day he woke up and didn’t go to school because he had to start preparing the funeral with his grandmother Grace. When the funeral was all planned they went back home to his house with all of the rest of his family and had dinner they had 7 guest bedrooms so they all could stay. He washed his parents bedding and that is where his grandma slept that night. During the night he still couldn’t sleep and his cousins were up late that night so he went down and started playing the PS3 with them. He crushed them in basketball and they had a good time. That was the first time since the accident that he didn’t think about his parents. Which is a good thing because if he were to keep thinking about them he wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. He slept on the couch with his cousins that night. He had a good night of sleep that night. The next day was the funeral. His parents were very popular in his town so about 4,000 people showed up. There was no school that day because everyone from school came to the funeral. His basketball team came and they gave him a signed basketball, and also developed a jersey for Jamie’s parents. He was very happy that they did that for them and thanked them. The next day he showed up at school and as soon as he walked in he couldn’t believe what he had saw. His school had decorated all of the halls for him. He thanked them all. This made his situation a lot better.
He went through all of his classes like normal, but he went home for lunch. That day at practice he was a little bit behind his class but none of the other classes because his class was the best the school had ever had in basketball. He still was on the starting team for sure because he was the number 6 high school recruit in the country. They learned a new offense that day and ran around the court about twenty times for conditioning. They had a good hard week of practice and had to prepare quick because they had a week zero game against an Omaha Nebraska team, called Omaha Benson. For Jamie and the Chapel Hill Ravens it was one of the easier games on the schedule. Their two hardest games that year were going to be against Oak Hill Academy from Ohio, and Omaha Central from Nebraska. Last year Omaha Central beat Oak Hill Academy. Oak Hill is the number 1 high school basketball school in the country. Not last year they were beat by Omaha Central, but Jamie’s team lost to them by one. But this year was the year that they were going to take them down hopefully in the National Championship of all the high school basketball teams in the country. Chapel Hill Ravens were in the semifinals last year and that was the when they lost by one to Oak Hill. Omaha Central blew out Omaha Benson to go to the championship. In the championship Omaha Central beat Oak Hill by 11 points.
Jamie was going through a hard time in his life Jamie starts to realize that if he really wants to go to a big college such as Duke or North Carolina or any college that is good at basketball then he is going to have to start working a lot harder, or any college won’t notice him. He has to work so hard that he is so sore; he needs to be the best he can possibly be. So the next day after basketball practice he stays late and keeps shooting hoops, then after he is gotten that workout done then he goes up to the weight room he does his workout and then takes a shower and goes back to his mansion, he does this every day until he starts scoring a lot more and is a lot stronger, even after he gets stronger and plays better he keeps doing the keeps doing the workout and he keeps getting better and better.
Duke notices him when he starts playing really good in his games averaging 45.6 points a game. Duke starts scouting him really hard and first Jamie soft commits to Duke because he did not know if he wanted to or not and then he decided he wants to go there for sure and he hard commits and Duke gives him the scholarship. Jamie was happy from this and he committed.
After Duke gives him the scholarship he is really happy. He and his team move on to State Basketball and they crush the first team 78 to 44. Then they move on to the semifinals and they only win my 15. Then on to the state championship, they inside the North Carolina basketball stadium they show up early and practice around. Then they go to the locker room and get all fired up. Then they come out and go through all four quarters and Jamie Scott makes the game winning three to win the state championship, and he wishes his parents were there to see it. Jamie moves on to college after the school year is over. He starts out is first year at Duke as the second string shooting guard, by the end of the year he makes his way up to the starting shooting guard. Jamie does everything he does for his parents.
