The Get Away
It was a sunny early morning in a small little town, in which Genisis Nicole was getting ready to do her chores, as the usual. Geni is a 14 year old girl who lives with an evil step-mother, one brother, and two sisters. This girl does not go to school, although she has been dreaming of going one day. She is a really smart girl, but the thing is that her mother does not let her go to school.
Since she is the oldest one, she always has to get her siblings ready for school every day. Her mother always tells her that she is too stupid to go herself and that she will just be wasting her time going to school. Today, when Genisis was getting the kids ready for school, her mother told her for the millionth time, “Genisis you are just too stupid to go with your sisters to school. Even if you did you would never amount to anything and you would end up on the streets. I’m sorry Genisis, I honestly am, but it’s the truth.”
Genisis finally had enough of her mother and replied, “You know what Cristina, you are stupid, and you are the one living alone with three kids and no job. The only reason you’re not on the streets yourself is because of my father, and I deserve some respect for that. I have had enough of you and I am sick of you treating me like crap.”
Cristina stood in her spot for a bit, shocked. She opened her mouth to speak, and then shut it. After a moment she caught herself and spoke, “Excuse me! Would you mind repeating that you ungrateful little brat!”
“If you are so smart Cristina, you would have heard me the first time,” Genisis yelled, tossing the broom Cristina had handed her on the ground.
“, And also, it’s about time you learned to do something yourself around the house. I’m not your slave. Start cleaning because Diana spilled a bowl of cereal in her room, and you know how hard carpet is to clean. At least I do!”
Genisis ran up the stairs into her room, slams the door, and then locks it before Cristina follows her up.
“Get back here geni! I just want to have a word with you, nothing more.”, but Genisis could hear the leather belt in her hand as it swayed through the air, a sound she knew too well.
She started to pack the little things she had with her. It didn’t take very long, since she only had two wrinkled shirts she had had since she was twelve, and one pair of pants. They were two years out of fashion, but that didn’t matter to her as long as she had something to wear. As for shoes, the only ones she had were the ones on her feet.
She was looking through her empty cabinet and found a picture of someone whom she loved with all her heart, her father.
“Oh, how I miss you Papa,” she whispered to herself through the tears as she smiled softly at the memories she shared with him. She was torn down about how her father had died during the horrible car crash they had about six years ago. She can close her eyes and think of this over and over as if it just happened yesterday.
It was the worst day of her life. Six years ago on father’s day her dad had taken her out to Olive Garden with his fiancé at the time, who was indeed Cristina. She didn’t like her then and of course doesn’t like her now, but Geni tolerated her for the sake of her father’s happiness. Anyways, they had a reservation and they were late, so her father pretty much broke every single speeding law to get there on time. He didn’t want to lose the only free table in his daughter’s favorite restaurant. When they were getting to the stop sign, they could see a car going extremely fast. At this point I closed my eyes and thought nothing was going to happen to us, my dad was a very safe driver after all. It seemed like years when I reopened my eyes, and when I did sirens were blaring in my ears. As soon as I got out the car the police men didn’t tell me everything that was going on. I was unharmed, as was most of the cab, but the driver’s side was a whole different story. It was completely bashed in, and the seat itself was reduced to a cube under the pressure. The passenger seat only got a bit damaged, but of course not like the side on which my father was in.
One day passed and Genisis’ godmother took her to see her father at Kaiser Permanente. On their way there they stopped at Party City to buy a little something for William, Genisis’ father. They soon found what they needed and left to see him. Doctor Doyal gave them the room number.
“Room 209; walk down the hall, and to your left.” The doctor said, without looking up from his work.
“Thank you doctor…”
“Doctor D-D-D- Doyal call me Dr.Doyal” He said looking like a red tomato.
“Well it is nice to know and thank you very much”
They followed the instructions and went to see William. As they both walked into the room Genisis ran and gave him a huge hug. She was so excited to see him. They sat in a chair patiently waiting for him to wake up. They were both waiting there for about an hour and a half when Sophia the godmother asked the nurse that was in the room checking William.
“Do you know if he is going to survive or not” asked Sophia
“Yes I do Mam may I talk to you outside for just a minute” replied the nurse
[un patiently] Sophia asked again “So will he be going to survive or not”
“Well there is a possible chance he can die because of all the injuries that occurred to him on that night of the crash.” Right now I can tell you that he will be going into coma we tried our best to keep him alive, but nothing seems to work.
“You must be joking with me?” Sophia asked
“I’m telling you the truth mam”, Why would I be joking about this? The nurse said to her.
They both went into the room. Genisis couldn’t wait to hear the news her godmother had for her.
“So what happened out there Sophia, is there any good news about my father?” Geni asked with a smile on her face, waiting to hear some good news.
“Umm, well how do I tell you this Geni.” She paused for a sec, tears coming out of her eyes and was not wanting to talk about it at this moment. “You see, your father will be going into a coma” she said to Genisis.
What do you mean? At this time she didn’t understand what a coma was.
A few days after her father went into a coma, and died. Until today she can remember every single detail they told her. She put the picture in her pocket and went into the living room to call her godmother to pick her up. Living with Christina was just too much to bear for Genesis, and not being able to go to school was just unimaginable. She waited patiently for Sophia to pick her up, and when she did, Genisis would be able to go to school and live a happy life for the first time in a very long while.
The End
