Moment In Time
The clouds scatter and the warm sun beams down on my sun tanned face. My hands are tugged and my kite is carried away in the swift wind, swaying back and forth. I wiggle my toes and begin sinking deeper into the summer sand.
My mind is carried away by the beautiful sights. I glance around me and I see smiling faces of the little children building sand castles, boats cruising along the horizon, and couples leaning in close together. Lake Michigan lies in front of me; there are miles and miles of the clear blue water, it is never ending. White caps form on top of the waves and the seagulls swoop down into the splashes. People stroll along the pier with their family and friends and fish leap out of the cool water. Old couples rest under their umbrellas while reading books and feeding the birds. The beach grass flows and grains of sand are uplifted. I smell the fresh lake water and the oily scent of sun tan lotion floating in the open air. This is a memorable place, where families make memories and take pictures of their little ones. Parents will always remember the day their daughter made her first sand castle or the day seagull poop rest upon their young son’s head. Whether the child remembers it when they get older or not, the memories will always be wonderful videos or stories to show and tell at a family get together.
The crashing of waves brings me back to reality. The air is cooler and the wind died down. I remain standing in the warm sand, my kite twirling, but sinking lower now. The sun is drowning in the water, past the horizon. The beach is beginning to clear out. I lie down and begin squishing around the sand that sits underneath the thin sheet. The sky darkens and the stars twinkle. This life is beautiful.
