The Way to Stardom
Before I walked downstairs, I looked into my bedroom mirror one last time. My black dress flowed down past my knees. A silver belt was tied around the waist portion of my dress. I put on my red lipstick as I hummed a tune.
“Shelly!” my mom called to me. ”Come downstairs. We’re leaving in five minutes.”
“Coming!”
I put on my red locket necklace and walked downstairs, both excited and nervous about the day to come.
“Get your bag, and make sure you have everything you need.”
“Okay”, I replied to my mom.
I grabbed my stuff and put on my coat. I got in the car. I closed my eyes and thought about how perfect I wanted this day to go. I opened my eyes, as there was an awkward silence that had filled the car. I looked out of the window at the the birds flying near a light pole. I bit my nails. I always bit my nails when I was nervous.
“No matter what happens, know that I love you. ” My mom said.
“Thanks mom! Love you too! ”
I had been preparing for my first singing gig since I was young, and today I got to perform in front of a real, live audience! As we pulled up to the theater, I hugged my mom and walked in.
“Good luck honey!” my mom said with a smile on her face.
I smiled at her and walked in. This was my time to shine.
I walked down a long, crimson colored hallway that had pictures of celebrities like Taylor Swift, Eminem, and Blake Shelton. The pictures all had a common theme: Stardom. There were no pictures of people I didn’t recognize. I was the first person to sing here that wasn’t a star already. This was the place where stars were made.
“Hi there. Are you Shelly, the girl who will be singing here tonight?” A lady with wires wrapped around her curly blonde hair asked.
“Yes, I will be, and I’m super excited for tonight!” I replied.
“Well, great! We’re excited to have you here! I’m Kelsey, the owner of Music Theater and Stars. Nice to meet you! Your show will start in approximately 20 minutes, so you can get ready or hang out, or do whatever you’d like.” She continued to talk and talk and talk, on and on and on about how the night would go. I looked at all the awards hanging on the wall. The wall was filled with plaques and trophies. This was a huge start to my career. She caught me looking away and I looked back at her.
“Thank you”, I said with a fake smile.
I walked in the bathroom and touched up my hair and makeup. An announcer came and told me the show would be starting in 4 minutes and I needed to be out there. I looked at myself one last time and walked backstage. I saw Kelsey and approached her.
“Good luck Shelly,” Kelsey told me.
I smiled at her and walked onstage. I started belting out the notes and the crowd erupted in cheers when I started singing. This was my moment. This was my stardom.
