The Cry of A Teen
Can I escape for a moment? The cry of a teen. Wanting some kind of release from reality, and finding it in different things. Whether it be drugs or alcohol or free thinking. But, we're criticized by the society and by our peers and pressured to make good grades and think inside the box.
Inside the box.
"don't color outside the lines, evolution is the answer to creation, it's not socially accepted to be yourself, don't do that, don't say this, you cant love him sir, he is of the same sex..."
Guidelines in a free country that restrict free living, its ironic really. And the culture continues to change creating more pressure every single day. Little girls striving to be a size three and starving themselves to fit into a pair of designer jeans.
And we are told to be ourselves... Funny isn't it, that in a world so cruel and standardized that someone would have the audacity to tell you to be you. That's right. Not Beyoncé, or Katy Perry, or Miley, but you. And in all your imperfections, do the best that you can do.
And You were raised on that principle and then thrown into public school, where there is all kinds of people alike in groups, but none of them like you. And as you grow older, everyone seems so shallow and the same. Just trying to fit in and be like someone with a name. And you are still only you. A no one. A nothing. Because you didn't fit the mold so they threw you to the sidelines.
And that's just how the world works. You follow the rules, dress like the rest, stay in your lane to be accepted by the best.
And if you fall into the peer pressure, they'll take you in, someone will. Whether you smoke with the stoners or drink with the partiers, you'll get somewhere with them. "Who cares if it's where you want to be, you're just making memories. A little fun never hurt anybody, it's a one time thing. They don't understand, if they tell you it's wrong, they're just trying to take away your fun."
And that's how we've fallen into rebellion. All the rules and standards surrounded our generation and we just want to be free. To let go. And, so, we find somewhere to fit in, and we go with the flow, because that's all that we know. And, if you're not living in our generation' day and time, you will never understand the weight of societies hand. It's bigger and stronger since your time around this bend. So don't tell me I'm living wrong, I am doing the best that I can.
And God if you can hear me, answer my prayers, because I can't see you or feel you, and I have no proof that you're there. Are you there?
It's all too much. I admit that I'm still just a kid, trying to grow up faster than I should. Can I escape for a moment. I am begging you. Please. Will someone take me somewhere I can finally be free? This is the cry of a teen. Take me somewhere free.
The cry of a teen.
