What Is Trust?
Trust is the very thing that everybody in this world desires, or at least should desire from one another. Who wants to have a friendship or relationship without trust? Nobody does. Without trust, there is no friendship, and without friendship, there is no love. I believe that trust is an even greater compliment than to be loved. Have you lost trust in some you considered a friend? Well that’s not the case for Lucy, she had almost lost her best friend Ashley because of one rumor spread by the one person she thought she could trust Mike who now considered a ex friend. Now you’re probably wondering how this all started right. Well to be honest this was typical middle school drama, but I must say I Lucy Jones has learned a valuable lesson in trust.
Ah the first day back from summer vacation at Washington Middle School and it was already filled with chaos and crazy chaotic 6th and 7th grade kids wondering around an yelling trying to find their friends and classes, but not me I was a 8th grader with my two best friends Mike and Ashley. I met Ashley when I was four years old and we went to “Rainbow of Friends” preschool, an since that day we’ve always been close an Ashley has that personality that is quiet but sweet, loving but sometimes to caring, but I can’t complain because she’s a great friend who is in love with track I mean come on who wouldn’t be in love with track, Ashley won first place in track when she ran the 400 k against one of the fastest people. Mike and I first met when he moved here to Georgia from Colorado and had gotten transferred into Washington Middle in 6th grade. Now Mike is known for being a ladies’ man, star of the football team, and a great friend (so I thought), and the Flash. Oh yes! The Flash is a name given to Mike from his football who said whenever Mike Williams has the football he just runs like a cheetah without being caught by the enemy.
Then you have me Lucy Jones who is sweet, competitive and passionate about being number one in everything I do, I’m the captain of the varsity volleyball team which means I get to call the shots on who gets to play and who doesn’t, but let’s face it who would I be if I didn’t have my “Sports Trio”? The sports trio is a group name Ashley, Mike, and I came up with since we would always see each other in the hallways or at lunch since we always had a game to go to, but that all changed when I walked into the hallways an towards my locker. Normally Ashley and I would meet halfway just to see each other and to look at our schedules but today was different. When Ashley had seen me I said “Hi” but she didn’t even acknowledge me it was like I didn’t exist.
As I stood their puzzled I hear a deep voice yelling my name. None other than Mike with a big smile on his face, hi Mike, “what’s wrong with Ashley?” Ash oh um…… well do you know as I stood there waiting on a answer he said no which was strange cause he always knew what was wrong with everybody. Well I’m going to go to class Mike I’ll talk to at lunch, ok as I was walking away I noticed that a group of kids were standing their pointing and whispering things as I walked by but I didn’t pay them any attention. When I walked into Mr. Carter’s class I seen my crush Zach who passed me a note saying “IS IT TRUE THAT YOU SAID ASHELY IS THE RUDEST AND MEANIEST PERSON AND YOU REGRET BEING FRIENDS WITH HER AND…… WILL YOU GO OUT WITH ME???” As I sat their shocked I realized that Ashley actually believed this and I know she doesn’t like to deal with drama especially when it involves her. So I passed the note back to Zach and asked him if he knew who spread this awful rumor and yes I answered for the second half of his question. When Mr. Carter had left the room to get his paper he printed Zach whispered in my ear and said Mike.
Mike I said in a shocked yes Lucy Mike he’s been going around the school telling people you said that. I felt so humiliated and angry that I didn’t know what to do but cry, but instead of crying I said can you text Ashley an tell her meet me at the lunch table. As soon as the bell rings I gave Zach a quick hug and told him I would call him later and ran to the lunchroom where I had found Rachel. Luc she said I’m so sorry I didn’t come up to you and ask if you rally said that about me, can you ever forgive me? Of course Ashley, you know I would never hurt you an if I should be mad at anyone it should be Mike for spreading such awful lies and rumors. While we sat at the table for 5 minutes just laughing and talking about summer we realized that Mike was just jealous and that instead of getting mad we would talk it out after his football practice.
So what is trust? Trust is something you build with someone you can honestly feel safe with telling things to and who are willing to the same for you because trust leads to loyalty that leads into honesty and stronger friendships which is what Ashley and Lucy realized.
