Selfless
He's sitting there. Alone. He's hiding his chocolate eyes, and you can't even think of the first thing to say to him. It would be easy to charge back in, be the fairy tale he always painted you to be.
But you can't. You don't. Because even though you are impatient and selfish and will always be followed by your fatal flaws, he is the one person you have to be selfless with. Because even though "I love you" doesn't even begin to touch the tip of the ice berg of how deeply you care for him, that's not what he needs from you. Not now.
But it's a hard, jagged pill to swallow when he says he's lonely. When he says your name, all it does is send you back to the moment when every proverbial bone in your body snapped. While he speaks in past tense, all you know is the future, and the here and now is stuck somewhere in the middle.
He's sitting there. Alone. And you can't even open your mouth.
