Ghosts
Her past, it haunts her like a ghost. Just when she thinks everything is ok, like the past is behind her, something pops right back up to find her. She desperately tries to get over her ghosts but to no prevail. The past is full of things that she can't escape, it’ll follow her throughout life. She’s talked to shrinks, to her school counselor, but it doesn’t work.
She pushes her ghosts to the bottom, convinces herself that she’s ok. On the surface she looks calm and collected. Then somehow something from her past comes and tears her down, brick by cracked brick. Her family worries about her she says she’s ok. She can’t bear the thought that others would have to worry about her problems. As it was, all of it weighed heavily on her own shoulders. Why burden someone with her ghosts?
It was never her idea, to make people worry. She holds the weight of the world on her shoulders, but she doesn't want anyone to know it. So she puts on that fake smile, laughs her fake laugh, and just barely gets through the day. This is all she does, she thinks she’s conquered her ghosts, but they in fact control her. She lives her life day-by-day she lets her past define her.
She thinks no one notices the difference. That no one sees that under her calm surface is a scared girl. Everyone is worried about her, everyone wants to help. Whenever they ask she just simply says, “I’m fine, just leave me alone, it’s best that way.” They are nervous for her she is scaring them. It seems like this whole thing keeps getting worse, over the years she’s changed. Her family barely recognizes her.
People try to figure out what’s got a hold on her. Yet they get no where, they don’t get why she’s beating around the bush. She can’t tell them, but they don’t realize that it all began that summer. They don’t realize that it wasn’t her choice, yes she went along with her friends that day. However she didn’t sign up for what came next.
She hides her arms, she won’t let the wounds heal, every time they begin to she creates a new one. Her ghosts are driving her, her demons. She can’t let them go, she can’t move on. Oh, how she wishes she could, could leave all of this behind her. Just live for her future, instead of living for the ghosts of her past.
No more can she let this happen. No more will she let her past ruin her life, her future. She will conquer her ghosts take her life back, decide her future herself. Not let what happened keep scaring her, keep her constantly looking behind her back to see if that ghost is coming back for her, no more! She is her own person, free of her past, and free for her future.
Torn down, brick by cracked brick. Her family worried about her she says she’s ok.She really means it this time. She can’t bear the thought that others would had to worry about her. As it was, all of it weighed heavily on her own shoulders. Why burden someone with her ghosts?
