August 2022 Fiction Contest: A Lonely Miracle
I perform miracles on whatever I touch.
Wounds heal, houses rebuild, and hunger diminishes. I do it secretly and wander the world as this journey is one I do alone. I’m searching for a miracle, one that I didn’t perform. May it be by God’s hands or a human’s, as long as it was not by mine, I’ll be satisfied.
But as I travel through the bustling streets, alleyways of the night, and valleys of the lost, I see no other miracle except myself. And then I realize I am alone, someone who has no other purpose but to serve others.
