Billions of years ago, in a planetary kingdom above the clouds, existed all the planets and stars of the universe. The kingdom acts as a central point for all the solar systems throughout the universe. In a specific solar system lies a big, bright, and burning star, Sun, who provides warmth and light to the eight other planets in her solar system. For all of time, she has endlessly fulfilled her duty of watching over her solar system and providing necessary care to all her planets, especially one planet in particular named Earth.

Many of the planets in this solar system have moons. These moons are eternally bound to their planet. Some planets have multiple moons and some planets have no moons. In Earth’s orbit lies a singular moon that is ironically named Moon.

Moon has been bound to Earth for all of his life. In his life, he only knows one thing, sit and watch the Earth spin. As Moon grew older he started to realize his position amongst the stars. He began to take notice of the bright figure that lies in the center of the solar system.

“Hey, Earth, who is that bright figure?” Moon asks one day.

“That, Moon, is the all mighty Sun. Without her, all life on my planet would perish” replies Earth.

“Wow, she’s beautiful!” Moon says.

The following millenia came with constant flirting between Moon and Sun. Echoing throughout the solar system was the rumor that Moon and Sun seemed to be falling in love. All the other planets in the solar system knew this was a bad idea as they could never truly get any closer than their words.

A well established rule in the universe was that stars and planets don’t fall in love, especially stars and moons. The contrast between the brightness of stars and the darkness of moons created a barrier which repelled one another when they tried to get close. So, everytime Sun wanted to get close to Moon she was repelled. But, this young couple believed their love was so fierce that they could be in love and fight the contrast.

Years went by and the couple grew even more in love though they still could not come close to each other. And so it went on, for the rest of eternity, the couple would chase each other across the sky. That is the story of how the sun and the moon alternate appearances in the sky, and how day and night came to be.

I like the topic of myths and wanted to write about one I came up with.
