Why Me?
So, this is what happened. It was an absolutely normal summer day, and I was sitting out on my front porch eating the most delicious Granny Smith apple I'd ever tasted. I didn't expect it to happen or anything, it just did.
My name's Annabelle, but you can call me Ann, or Annie.
Well, like I said, I was just sitting, minding my own business, when I decided to go for a walk. You know, nothing too special. Just a walk.
I was walking down my street, when out of nowhere, this gutter sneaks up on me and I trip and fall in.
Next thing I know, I'm falling and falling and falling until I land on a soft patch of grass. My first thoughts were, 'Ew... Grass? In the sewer?' Then I realized that I shouldn't have survived that fall... It was too far... I opened my now tightly closed eyes one at a time to see I was sitting in a field full of nothing.
'Where am I?' I thought, 'What is this place?' I stood, terrified. I'd just fallen into, excuse me, THROUGH a sewer and landed in a field! When does that happen?! I'd never heard of it happening to anyone!
Something tapped my shoulder, and I jumped nearly three feet into the air. A soft chuckle sounded from whatever had startled me, and I cautiously turned around.
It was a centaur... Wait, A CENTAUR!? Since when do those exist...? 'I must be going crazy... Either that, or I died from the fall and this is heaven...' I thought. I was absolutely, undeniably flabbergasted. What was I to do?
"Hello." The centaur said, his voice warm and inviting, "Is your name Annabelle?"
I nearly screamed then. How did he know my name?! I looked up at his face, "Y-yes... Call me Ann."
"Of course Milady. We've been awaiting your arrival. The king ordered that you be brought to him as soon as you arrived. Might I ask, Lady Ann, what is your year?"
"My age?" I ask, "Well... I'm sixteen."
He nodded and turned, "You could follow, or I would gladly offer you a ride. Which would you prefer, Milady?"
A ride on a centaur's back? How could I refuse?! But first I had one question...
"What's your name?" I paused, "And I'd love the ride."
He smiled a warm smiled and nodded, "My name is Longfen-Yuul."
I smiled, "That's a nice name." With that, I climbed onto his back, and I rode down to the castle with him to meet the king of these strange lands. Maybe he'd have the answers to my many questions...
