The Mission
Engines roaring, clouds flying by, the soldiers hold on, nervously cruising across the sky to their L.Z.. Approaching quickly, the soldiers hastily put on their gear: helmets, parachutes, weapons. The cargo door opens; looking down, they view the destruction. Through the smoke and debris they can faintly see the beast. “Prepare yourselves,” the Sgt. commanded. “Dropping in three… two… one…”
The 21st Airborne, knowing the risk, jumps out of the cargo plane. Deploying smoke on their mission down and producing six blood red trails distracts the beast from the city and turns his attention to them. They start landing between two skyscrapers; one no longer stands, creating a horizon for the sun to hide it’s face behind. The earth seems as if it is standing still, like the silence before the storm. The soldiers’ hearts beating intensely keeps them alert. Fiercely waiting, they stand before the smoke and debris as it towers over them. The ground starts to gently shake, then more and more violently as the sound of his footsteps grow closer...
