The Tale of Spookysburg

Every 619 years Halloween falls on Friday the 13th and on this day the ghost of Frederick Cornelius haunts the town of Spookysburg. This just so happened to be one of those years and everyone in Spookysburg was especially spooked about it. The mayor, Jack O. Lantern, held a town hall meeting to discuss how they were going to handle the situation. After hours of debate, arguments, and impulsive candy corn eating they reached a verdict; they would befriend the ghost of Frederick Cornelius. This news came as a shock to the citizens and was not received well, but an enforced penalty of a $10,000 fine for not participating proved very effective. The plan was simple, all residents would stand in the middle of the town square and greet Mr. Cornelius when he arrived, hoping that the lack of hostility shown toward him would encourage him to show them mercy. On the night of Halloween, with the town square filled to the brim, a bright light appeared in the sky. The people were in awe. Frederick Cornelius descended leisurely from the sky. He swiftly struck down each and every one of the citizens of Spookysburg, because showing them mercy wouldn’t have been spooky at all.
