The Green Mile

The Green Mile by Stephen King, was an outstanding book. The main character as well as narrator, who was known as Paul Edgecomb. Paul was an old man living in a nursing home, he was reminiscing on the good times back in his day. Paul explains things a few years back when he was the block supervisor of the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row; also known as “The Green Mile”, because of the color of the floor in the facility. This year was when another character named John Coffrey had arrived at the green mile. John was a 6’8” big and built black man. John had been convicted with raping and murdering two small white twin girls. During his time spent on the mile, John usually would hangout with the other “crazy” inmates; who had been charged with things very similar to him.
There was something odd about John Coffrey, he had a talent, and a special touch you could say. The book described John having “inexplicable healing abilities”. John cured Paul (main characters) Urinary Track Infection, as well as bringing another character that was known as Mr.Jingles who was in the penitentiary, back to life after being stomped on by Percy. The guards drug “Wild Bill” another inmate in an attempt to smuggle John out of prison and take him to the home of Warden Hai’s, whose wife has a deadly brain tumor. John ended up curing her deadly brain tumor. Shortly after getting back to the green mile, John goes mad and shoots “Wild Bill” to death, making himself fall into a catastrophic state that he never recovers. Paul, the main characters suspicions that John was innocent for the rape and murdering of the twin girls was proven right. It was really William “Wild Bill” Wharton who raped and murdered the twins and John was really trying to revive them back to life.
I’d say the floor in the Cold Mountain Penitentiary death row resembles what is going to take place through out the book. The title of the book is named The Green Mile because the Penitentiary was nick named the green mile because of the floor tiling in the facility. It really has a lot of foreshadowing that gives you a hint that things aren't going to turn out too good.
I would recommend the book for teenagers to young adults both male and female sexes. I thought it was an amazing book I personally would rate it at a 4.5 out of 5 stars. The intensity of the book really keeps you guessing to see what’ll happen once you flip the page.
