The songbird

Beep! I wake up to the horrendous sound of my alarm clock and glance at it, in blaring red letters it reads, 7:59. Oh no! I’m late for work! I briskly jump of of bed, but end up crashing to the ground.
“Oh great”, I mumble as I examine the bruise forming on my arm, I quickly get dressed, and feed my pet chihuahua, Pinky, jump into my car to go to to my office.
I finally arrive at the building, fly into the elevator, and punch number 11, where my office is, but right when the doors start to close a mother and her son run in, and before I know it the little boy pushes every button, I check my watch, and it reads 8:45, I’m already 45 minutes late! As the door closes, I start to yell at the mother who does not even scold the boy, but they are already getting off, at the second floor.
“Really!?” I yell in agony, as they get off, the lady turns around looks at me and says,
“People these days”, with a disgusted look on her face, then she turns around and looks at her son
“ Why can’t everyone be like you”, she says
“ I don’t know mama”, says the boy, then they both look at me like I should be a better citizen and get off the elevator.
After what seems like hours I finally run into my office and see a letter on the ground, but I don’t stop running in time and tripped on one of the many things in my cluttered office. Ouch, that hurt.
I get up and look at the letter. It says, confidential, to Artemis Cane,
How peculiar, I thought, I use an alias at work, I look for the return address but there isn’t one, so I warily open the letter, and it gives a single phone number, I read it and call the number, and almost immediately , a woman answers the phone.
“Hello, is this Artemis Cane?“, she says in an accent that I can't place
“Yes”, I say “this is Artemis Cane”
“State your age and occupation”
“What!”, I say.
“Just tell me”, she says in an annoyed voice.
“Well, I’m 5 and I want to be a doctor when I grow up”, I say in a sarcastic tone.
“Don’t joke around with me, be serious”, says the lady, I laugh and say
“I am 22 and I am a private investigator”
“Ok, this is the right Artemis”, she says to herself
“I am Rose Wilson of the united nations, and something has been stolen meet me at millennium park, near the bean at 12:00pm tomorrow and we will discuss the details.”
“Ok good...” I start to say but she has already hang up.
I wake up the next morning at 6:00, and call my intern, Margaret, to tell her that she will have to open up today, by the time I do my chores and eat breakfast it already 11: 30, I groan and add work on time management to the things that I need to work on. I jump into the car and speed to millennium park, and almost ran into a bus while doing so, when I finally arrive at the meeting place it is 12:05, I think I got there on time, or at least I do until, a middle aged lady taps me on the shoulder and says
“You're late” in an Australian accent she looks about 35 and looks like a stereotypical secretary.
“Ow!” I say as she sticks her flawless blood red painted fingernails into my arm and pulls me toward a corner.
“Now listen up, because I will say this once and only once”, she whispers
‘Okay”, I say, she scolds me and says
“Don’t speak and listen! A very important plant has been stolen and we believe it’s location is Casablanca, Morocco it is in a container of a canary, we would like to hire you to find the canary.”
She describes more details and we sign a few papers and before I know it, I’m on a plane to Casablanca with Margaret, explaining to her what our mission is
“So... All we have to do is find a figurine... This seems beneath us”
“No, this is not beneath us, this figurine holds the only known plant that can cure all diseases, the last of its kind, and if we don’t save it , it will never produce more seeds” I continued explaining this to her until we arrived at Mohammed V. international airport, after getting through customs, I rent a car and drive to the hotel, the hyatt regency, once we arrive we go to our rooms, once in my room I look to the list Rose Wilson gave me. First I look at the list of people with information and call the first person on the list, Sadie Blue
“hello”, I say
“Hi” says the voice of a young woman
“Is this Sadie Blue?”, I ask
“Yes”, she says
“Do you have any information on the canary”
“Yes”, says Sadie
“Last week a man with a long mustache and a french accent bumped into me at the ibis hotel. I saw him drop the songbird (which I know about because my uncle used to work with it), he quickly picked it up and put it in his pocket. Later I saw him checking into the hotel, but I don’t know why he was there in the first place. He said that he was staying there for 2 weeks, so he is probably still there.”
“Thank you”, I say
“you're welcome” she says.
Once we end the conversation I write down the notes in my notebook and call Margaret to tell her that we are going to the ibis hotel. While we drive to the hotel I give Margaret my notebook. by the time we get there it is 5:30, and the sun is starting to go down.
As soon as we arrive at the hotel we see many men, and even some women with large, intricate moustaches. We soon notice a bright color on the roof and look up to find a sign that reads
“Moustache Convention “ and another one that reads
“Antique Bird convention”
“Just my luck”, I say, then leave.
The next day I visit the mosque of hassan the 2nd. Once I get there realise that they are doing construction, and that’s when I look up and see the one! Its the thief, as I look up a small gold figure drops out of his pocket and I dive to catch it, its the canary! as the man briskly climbs down the ladder I quickly whip out My phone and call the police, who happens to be right outside. The police catches the criminal and ask him information
“ What is your name”, says the police in a gruff voice
“ Francois Vinaldi”, says the thief in a french accent, staring at me with hatred
“Wow,” says the police ”we have been looking for you for years!” he looks at me and says,
“Thank you citizen” then he takes the criminal away.
