Beach House Basement

The first thing Danielle thought when she saw the beach house was “No way.”
“What’s that honey?” asked her Dad as they pulled into the sandy driveway.
“You’re kidding right Dad? We’re not really staying in this old place are we?” Austin asked as he caught his first glimpse of the beach house.
“It’s the only place we could afford. Would you rather go back home? You two are the ones that wanted to go.” Snapped their Mother as she opened the car door to get out.
The Carter family had been driving for almost eleven hours. It was the first vacation they’d had as a family in five years. Michael, the Father, has lost his job, so things had been pretty rough for the Carter family.
They walked up to the door and unlocked it with the key that the beach house rental office gave them. When they walked in and noticed that all of the windows were covered with dark curtains.
“Mom, why is it so dark in here?” asked Danielle.
“They covered the windows with blinds and curtains. Help me open the curtains.” Demanded their Mother.
When it became clearer in the house, they could tell that no one had been in the house in quite a while. There was spider webs in every corner of the living room.
As Danielle took a step, she heard a crunch.
“Oh my goodness, what was that!” she screamed as she raised her foot up from the ground.
“Gross, it’s a roach.” Said Austin.
After Danielle cleaned her shoe off, they went to explore the house. There seemed to be a bunch of rooms in the house, even though they only needed three. The kids picked out what rooms they wanted and decided to go out on the beach and look for sea shells. When they came back in, they had only found very few. After that they started walking around the house and noticed a mysterious door. When they tried to open it wouldn’t open, so they decided to go get one of their mom’s credit cards.
“Here I found one.” Said Danielle.
They ran back to where the door was, hoping that their parents wouldn’t see them.
“I can’t get the door to open.” Danielle said as she struggled.
“Here, let me see it.” Austin said as he grabbed the card away from her.
After a few minutes of trying to get the door open, it finally opened. As they opened the door even more, they seen that there was an old wooden staircase.
“Go see what is down there Austin.” Asked Danielle.
“No, I’m not going down there.” Said Austin.
“Fine then I’ll go down there, but you stay right here and don’t shut the door.” Whispered Danielle.
Each step she took, she got more scared. The steps were creaking, which made her more scared. When she got closer to the bottom she noticed a light switch, so she turned it on. It wasn’t lights that you would see in a normal house but they were on the walls and were very dim. She finally got to the bottom when she seen caskets covered with white sheets. She figured that they were empty because they were in a basement and not in a grave.
“Austin there is caskets down here. I’m going to open one.” said Danielle.
She pulled the sheets back and slowly opened the casket. There was a body that didn’t look like it had been there for to long. She bent down to look at it closer and then the body jumped up and she started to scream.
“Help Austin, help!” cried Danielle.
She was running up the stairs when all of a sudden the door slammed shut. She ran to the door and started beating it. The body was crawling up the stairs behind her when she started to scream. Then suddenly she woke up from her nightmare.
