“Peyton, wake up sweetie. It is time for school, you leave for your overnight hiking trip today.” My mom tapped on my shoulder trying to wake me up.
“I’m up, I’m up.” I turned over to face her.
“Mom, can you help me finish packing?”
“Sure sweetie.”
“Thanks mom”
I roll out of bed, put Elastic Heart by Sia on ,and put on my outfit for the day. I throw on some navy blue shorts, a tank top,and a light sweater. I throw my hair into a side braid and put on my black converse. I grab my bag and head downstairs.
“Sweetie, what would you like for breakfast?” My dad asked. “Can I just have some eggs and orange juice please?” I ask, and he nodded his head and began to make breakfast. I decided I
would make sure I packed everything, so I went to find my mom.
“Mom?”
“In here!” She was in the bathroom, packing all my toiletries.
“Thanks again mom, I don’t know what I would do without you.”
“Aw honey” she gave me a hug, “I will always be there for you.” She kissed my head.
“I love you mom.”
“Breakfast is ready!” My dad calls from the kitchen.
After eating my breakfast, I hear my friend Kaitlyn’s music blasting outside.
“Bye mom, bye dad. Love you!”
“Bye sweetie!”

*At School*
“Who’s ready for the hiking trip after school?” My Nature Club teacher, Mr. Levine asked. We all just shouted and said “Yeah!”. Mr. Levine is also my English teacher. He’s really funny and super nice. It was lunch time and we were having a short meeting about our trip later on. We are leaving the school at 1:30pm. Because it takes about 2 hours just to drive to the state park we were hiking at. When it was time to leave, i grabbed my bag out my locker and signed out at the office.
“Name?”
“Peyton Williams”
“Where are you going?”
“I’m on the Nature Club, overnight hiking trip”
“You will be on bus #3501”
“Okay thanks”
I walked out the doors and met up with my friends, Leslie, Kaitlyn, Sarah, and Dylan.
“Hey guys, what’s up?”
“Nothing really, just waiting for the bus. Which one are you on?” Dylan asked. I looked down at my paper, “Um #3501, you?”. “We are on the same one, do you want to sit together?” “Sure” I replied.
*Bus Ride*
We all got on the bus, I wanted to sit in the middle. “I call window seat!” Dylan yelled. “Okay but I get it on the way back.” “Deal.” We got to our destination, we were at Letchworth State Park. “It’s really beautiful here” I quietly said to myself.. not quiet enough because then Dylan said looking at me, “It sure is.”
*State Park*
We started hiking after we got all our things off the bus. We stopped half way to take a water break but then kept going. We finally got all the way to the top, it was about 6:00 at night. We set up our tents and got a fire started. After we ate, we just talked to each other. Around 9, we started hearing noises. Mr. Levine went to go check it out. He was gone for about 20 minutes and still hasn’t come back. I was getting worried, what if something happened to him? I thought to myself. I looked to see who was all in our group, we had a 2 freshmen, 3 sophomores, 2 juniors, and 3 seniors. I knew us seniors had to find a way to safely get back down to the buses to get help. “I need all Seniors over here please!” I yelled.
“What’s going on?” Stephanie asked.
“Mr. Levine hasn’t come back yet, we need to get everyone back down to the buses safely so we can get help.” I told her and the rest of the group. We start walking when we all saw a figure up ahead.
“What is that?” Dylan asked, “I don’t know, maybe a dead animal. Let’s go check.” I said to Dylan. We all start walking toward the figure and we are all shocked to realize that It was Mr.Levine. He appears to be badly bruised and he has blood all over his face. “OMG IT’S MR.LEVINE!!!!” Dylan yelled.
“I’m not sure, I will see if he moves when I touch him. Someone get me a stick or something.” I am in a state of shock but I try to keep my cool so no one runs off. “Here, take my umbrella” Rachel said. I take the umbrella and poke his side. He doesn’t move. I try again, no response. I get a little closer to his face and check for a pulse. As I check there is no rhythm, No movement, no nothing. “Someone call the police, he is dead.” I tell the group. The group gasps in response. “There is no service, what do we do?” asked Natalie. I start to worry, we are in the middle of nowhere and we have no way to contact anyone for help.
“Let’s just go back to the buses and stay in there, it will be dark soon so at least we will be able to stay in a safe place for the night.” I said as we all walk down the trails to the buses up ahead. Once we all get to the buses we look over what supplies we have and how much food we can scavage. “I have an apple, pretzels, two bottles of water, and a chocolate chip muffin.” Kate points out. “I have four packs of yogurt and a chocolate bar.” Damion says. I start to look for any other supplies; I find a flashlight, a camera, batteries, a first aid kit, 3 packs of matches, four bottles of water, an ax, a pack of granola, and an empty backpack. This could be enough, I hope.
“Let’s settle for the night.” I tell everyone. There are five of us so we won’t be squashed in the bus. “Wait, I have to go to the bathroom.” Dillon said as she stands up. “Okay, follow me.” I say as we walk down the aisle and out of bus door. “Over here, there is a bush.” I say to Dillon as she looks at me with disgust. “It’s either this or hold it until you die.” I say as she gives out a long sigh and walks towards the bush. As I wait for her to finish I hear something behind me, I turn my head around and I see a wolf searching for food. “Hurry up! There is a wolf about a mile away, we need to get back to the bus.” I say with a panic.”Okay, let’s go.” She says.  She gets up and we run back to the bus.
We make it just in time but as we close the door we hear a scream. We all look around to see if anyone is hurt. I walk down the aisle and all I see in the last seat is Kate, covered in blood. She was killed. “It’s Kate! Does anyone know what happened to her?!” I say with worry. “No, we were all asleep”. Natalie says. Two people dead in one day, someone is murdering people one by one. I grab the ax I found in the bus and I stay seated by the door. “No one is leaving, we will wait for this ------- to return.” I say as I grip the handle of the ax with fear and anger.
