The cold, thick, concrete walls with the strong smell of lemon cleaning products makes her even more scared than she already is being in a kidnappers cellar with three girls she doesn’t even know. Knowing that she will never see her family ever again makes it worse for Summer in the novel The Cellar by Natasha Preston. There are four girls total. Summer has never seen any of the other girls before she gets taken. The kidnapper’s name is Colin but he demands that all the girls call him Clover. The kidnapper is so crazy he even gave the girls names different than the names they were born with. Those names were, Poppy, Rose, and Violet. Summer’s new name is Lily. You might be saying to yourself wow, all of the names of the girls are flowers and that’s not just a coincidence. He did it on purpose and every morning Clover would buy all four of those types of flowers, put them in vases and put them on the dining table. Clover’s purpose of taking these girls is to make a family of his own. He chooses to violate them to make the family he wants. He believes that violating them is the only way to make a family. Summer eventually gets used to the environment with Colin and the girls in the cellar. Summer does everything that she is told. She gets to the point where she believes she won’t ever see her family again. Do you think she can escape the psycho Colin? Read the book The Cellar to find out!

The author's comments:

This book was great! There was some profanity but to me it made the book more realistic and intriguing. It is also told in the different characters point of view. For example, Natasha Preston told what the cellar was like and what they thought of Clover from each of the girls’ perspectives. The Cellar is like an emotional rollercoaster, it’s great! One example is when Summer and the other girls are trapped in the cellar and they go through many crazy events and tasks while being stuck down there. I extremely suggest you read The Cellar, especially if you are into suspenseful mysteries. I hope you like the book as much as I did!
