The Youtube community. A place where you can express yourself through the art of videography. There are millions of users and billions of viewers. Many users have millions of subscribers. One of them is probably the most famous beauty guru on Youtube. Her name is Michelle Phan.

Some Background on Michelle Phan

Michelle Phan is a digital pioneer on YouTube. She works hard to edit and make useful videos that inspire, inform and entertain. She has put up over 260 videos on her YouTube channel, MichellePhan, over the time span of 6 years. She has almost 4,000,000 subscribers and millions and millions of video views. She posts videos about tutorials, D.I.Y.s, tips and much more. Michelle has done it all! Also Michelle is the creator of FAWN (For All Women Network) and co-founder of Ipsy.

Michelle isn’t the only successful beauty guru on YouTube. There are also other well-known beauty gurus like Kandee Johnson, Bethany Mota, Jessica Harlow, Promise Phan and many more. Each one of them brings different personalities and tips to the table, but they all have one thing in common. They love beauty and YouTube.

A little about Ipsy

Ipsy is a monthly makeup subscription bag and also a website where you can share groups of videos, looks and ideas. Every month, for $10, you receive a makeup bag with 4-5 makeup, skincare and nail polish deluxe samples or full-size products. This gives you a chance to try different product for a lesser cost. The products that you get come from Ipsy’s partners like Keihls, Nyx and Mica Beauty. Some bag’s value can be as much as $55! Ipsy allows you to try new things as well as express yourself through your looks and videos. Michelle co-founded this company. Plus, there are stylists who help pick products and create looks with each bag. They are Promise Phan (dope211), Bethany Mota (MacBarbie07), Jessica Harlow (MissJessicaHarlow) and Andrea Brooks (andreaschoice).

Why Generation Beauty Was Created

Michelle started the event as a way to create a community out of YouTube’s previously scattered beauty scene. She said, “It’s kind of crazy to think that six years ago this online community didn’t exist,” “Girls posted makeup tutorials here and there, but there wasn’t a concrete community until YouTube happened. Once that was established, like-minded girls were networking with each other, creating beauty tutorials. As years went by, the community grew bigger and bigger, and I stepped back and realized there was no event to celebrate this amazing group of girls who are paving the way for the beauty industry. I told my team, ‘We need to create the first digital beauty conference.’ I’ve seen makeup conferences [for] makeup artists. I’ve even seen conferences for brands, but I’ve never seen one for beauty vloggers and bloggers.” Michelle wanted to create a big meet-up for the beauty community all in one place so you can learn and have fun.

What was at Generation Beauty

Generation Beauty was held in Los Angeles on the weekend of June 1st and June 2nd. They had the convention at 11:00am - 9:00pm on Saturday and 9:00am - 5:00pm on Sunday.

Many brands attended as well as many sponsors of the Ipsy company. The sponsors at Generation Beauty were: Anastasia, FAWN, Benefit, Nyx, Temptu, BH cosmetics, Nicole by O•P•I, Pacifica, Pixi, London Soho New York, Smashbox, Big Frame, Make Up For Ever Professional Paris, Toni&Guy Hairdressing Academy, Honest Tea, and Tat2U. There are also many more Ipsy sponsors that did not attend like Juice Beauty, Urban Decay, Buxom, The Balm and Two cosmetics.

During Generation Beauty

Generation Beauty had a schedule with all different kinds of to talks with different people. Some talks were how to pick out a memorable username or how to edit videos well. All of these talks were spoken by different beauty gurus from YouTube.

Also different YouTube gurus had meet-ups at the different sponsor’s booth’s.

Pus, Bare Minerals had free makeovers with different free foundations.

There was also lots more, but if I talked about everything this article would be very long.

Generation Beauty was lots of fun and I think it will be very popular in the years to come.
