Just about every teen right now has "Yik yak",but what is all the hype truly about.so many kids have said cruel things and gotten away with it. So many kids have said cruel things and gotten away with it on this app. Yik yak is an application that just about anybody can install on their smartphone/tablet. Your general location is turned on, so you can see what people around you are posting, but not their names. It is almost like a big anonymous chat room for locals with the same application. Yik yak was a disaster just waiting to happen when it was put up on the App Store because there is no accountability.
There is no accountability held in purchasing the app yik yak. The app is free,so this encourages more people to get the app. Also, there is no actual check to see if you are of age. As long as you have a smartphone/tablet, then you can get it. The app was originally intended for college students. Most students who have I phones don't go to college however. Little kids want to be just like the big kids,so if the older ones have yik yak,you can bet that soon enough so will they. "In a survey that asked which gadget was most desired by kids, the 12- to 17-year-old age group showed its conservatism, opting for the tried-and-true. Though it was girls who wanted iPhones far more than boys."
Next, people can just click agree without reading the rules. There is no reminder to keep you accountable for reading the terms of use. You are warned at the beginning of using the app that you are supposed to be kind to others, but they leave it up to you to judge."According to the guidelines, the app shouldn’t be used for bullying or targeting of “other yakkers.” Users are also advised to refrain from using people’s full names and phone numbers and to “downvote” or report “useless or offensive yaks"
If you don't need to give your information out,you would think you couldn't be found out. Contrary to what most teenagers believe, your location isn't actually anonymous. It might not be open to the public, but the police could and have easily track your post/comment back to your home. Even if you delete it,once you put something online it never disappears. Yik yak is a place that holds bullying and bystanders who are quietly approving of wrong actions, even without knowing.
