Walking through the doors with pride
Smelling the sweetness of the yellow
bright flowers
There are many of you and only a few of us
I would like far more time to sit by you
and talk
To hear stories about your lives and
accomplishments
Your loved ones, your husband, and
your family
Gray hair becoming white
Slowly losing your eyesight
The memory of everyone you knew is fading
I grieve when I see you sad and alone
Making me realize who I have at home.
Doing your nails or reading you magazines
Makes me so thankful for my blessings
Cracking jokes, laughing, and smiling
Makes me realize to live each day of my life like it's my last
You thank me for being there for you and
helping you out
When really I'm thanking you for making me realize what I have.

The author's comments:
I volunteer at a nursing home. I come through the doors not knowing what to expect but I am really happy and excited to help out. It's really sad. From the good to the bad stories and helping them out. They make me realize that what I have is a precious blessing from God. I will always value it.
