Climate Change

Did you know most of the increase in global temperatures since 1950 has been caused by human activity. This is caused by the burning of fossil fuels, and pollution from mass production factories etc. Many people agree climate change is real and something needs to be done, here are some reasons why huge companies such as Amazon are taking steps towards turning climate change around!

The Glaciers

Since the early 1900s, many glaciers around the world have been rapidly melting. Human activities are at the root of this specifically, since the industrial revolution, carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions have raised temperatures, even higher in the poles, and as a result, glaciers are rapidly melting, falling into the water, rapidly raising the sea level(1). This is one of the main reasons people are starting to open their eyes to climate change. Due to our ways since the industrial revolution the habitats of many animals such as penguins, polar bears, sealion’s, the list can go on and on of how many animals are being affected negatively by climate change. As these huge chunks of ice keep on melting, they add more and more water to the ocean. This is a huge problem for the near future, here is why. The polar ice caps are melting six times faster than in the 1990s, according to the most complete analysis to date. Because of this jurassic increase, new information has arisen saying Without rapid cuts to carbon emissions the analysis indicates there could be a rise in sea levels that would leave 400 million people exposed to coastal flooding each year by the end of the century. This is why climate change is so very important, just one effect of climate change (The glaciers melting) can cause over 400 million people to have coastal flooding.(2)

Global Temperature Rise

For the past millennia atmospheric carbon dioxide has been going up and down at a safe rate, but new evidence provided by NASA. This evidence shows us that there is a very big spike caused by humans putting carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is what NASA’s climate change website says about the global temperature rising. “The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 2.05 degrees Fahrenheit (1.14 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere. Most of the warming occurred in the past 40 years, with the six warmest years on record taking place since 2014. Not only was 2016 the warmest year on record, but eight months out of that year — from January through September, with the exception of June — were the warmest on record for those respective months.” One effect of this temperature change is that there is less snow covering the earth! NASA’s facts about climate change tab states that satellite observations reveal that the amount of spring snow cover in the Northern Hemisphere has decreased over the past five decades and the snow is melting earlier than past years. This is why everyone needs to be aware of climate change, so we can all take steps forward together toward having a earth that many many more generations of all living creatures can live on.

Can our Damage Be Reverted?

Ways that many car companies and big corporations are working together to help with the air pollution is an all electric system. This is a system where all transporting and manufacturing is not produced in a way that causes air pollution. Another way to help with air pollution is an increase in wind and solar power on the planet, since neither forms of power produce gases or anything to harm the environment and they are forms of power that can never run out! The fossil fuels that we use today will eventually run out which is another reason why we need to have an increase in wind and solar power anyways. Protecting forests is a vital part of helping to reduce the amount of gases heating up our planet! All in all, this was to raise awareness of climate change and how it affects animals, the rising temperatures from air pollution, and rising sea levels from the melting glaciers.
