Why I forgot how to swallow by Anonymous. This story is interesting to me in they way that it’s true. It talks about how from the day we are born we are already compared to other people. With our height and weight differences and how different people struggle with how they look starting from that point on when they get older. Anonymous goes on to say, “I vividly remember the cramped, canary-colored walls of the doctor’s office inching toward me as my doctor told me I was in the eighth percentile for weight. This moment commenced the worst adventure of my life.” After his/her visit with their doctor they couldn’t eat for months after. The reason was because they felt and quote, “bombarded by pressure from everyone in my life to be something I naturally was not.” They physically could not eat, anytime they would throw up. Our society evaluates everyone by comparing them. Our nature does this all the time with instinct, although it shouldn’t be so. It affects so many people’s mental states and alters how they feel about themselves. But, us as people still do it.
