Dumpster-Divers Review
Dumpster-divers are people who try to buy as little as possible; instead they look through garbage cans and forage food in the wild. They do this to make a statement against the exploitation of capitalism.
In the article “Dumpster-Divers” by Sugee Liyanage in the October issue of Teen Ink, the author writes about a group of people who live by sharing and scavenging food in trash cans. While it sounds more economically and environmentally better, to me it’s an extreme and hard life choice to make. I agree with their actions of volunteering and finding new ways to live, but I can honestly say I wouldn’t be able to live like that. The way they use biodiesel or vegetable oil for their cars is wonderful for the environment and how they share tools and other items is a terrific idea. I’m very surprised that people choose to live that way, and I don’t really see this happening in my town.
