The Last Straw
In "The Last Straw," "Mary" did what so many of us were afraid to do- she spoke up. This piece was very powerful and although child abuse is a hard topic to touch upon, "Mary" told her story. The emotion and power in every line was evident. I felt like I was with her in the car that day, fearing her dad just as well.
It was very brave of "Mary" to tell us her story. I feel this gives many other kids some hope and courage to also speak up. Child abuse should be a topic that is discussed in schools and something that kids should be able to talk about. "Mary" did a good thing by reporting her father, and hopefully this will give other kids a voice to tell their stories as well.
