The poem “So OCD” by Catherine Sleeman is a short, yet beautiful and meaningful poem. Catherine expresses her frustration with people using mental disorders, in her case OCD, as an adjective to describe something meaningless they did. In the poem, she mentions her encounter with someone who calls themselves "Honestly so OCD" because they like to keep their schoolbooks organized. She then comments on this, saying “I’d pity you, but I haven’t time” and explains in great detail what having OCD is really like.
     Catherine flawlessly paints a picture in my mind with her brilliant word choice. Since I do not struggle with the same problem that she does, I got to witness how painful it is to a have obsessive compulsive disorder. She uses words like “incessant,” “cleansing,” “ purging,” and “eradicating” to truly show the reader how much torture the disorder causes. Catherine calls out all of the people who use serious mental disorders as quirky adjectives in their daily life. This problem is significant in our society so I’m glad Catherine wrote this tremendous poem to raise awareness. For that, I commend her.
