We fall to ashes
Think black smoke curls it's way
under doors, though cracks in windows
seeping in from almost everywhere
the sweet pungent smell threatening
to choke you where you stand,
telling the tales of disaster
ruined homes, lost lives
licked at by the crackling flames
Burning till the only thing left
is ashes, floating in the wind
carried outward, covering cities
in a blanket of dust.
Settling on rooftops, driveways, and cars
singing your throat as you breathe
Taking loved ones from the comfort of home
forcing them to witness
hungry flames in search
of their next meal
Taking anything that stands in its way
unwilling to relinquish its grip
we fall to ashes
