The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 is a car created by Nissan. It is a beautiful performance car. Over time it has evolved from the KPGC10 created in 1969 to the 2019 Nissan Nismo GT-R. Throughout the years the Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 has become the most iconic out of all of them and in my opinion the best Nissan Skyline of them all.

Nissan is a Japanese company founded by four individuals: Yoshisuke Aikawa, Masujiro Hashimoto, William Gorham, and Rokuro Aoyama. It was founded in 1933 and the first Nissan Skyline GT-R was made in 1969.  The Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 was designed by a man named Kozo Watanabe (Razor & Tie, Rovi Corporation). The most iconic 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 is owned by Brian O’Connor played by Paul Walker in the film 2 Fast 2 Furious (Top Gear).

The 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 is an incredibly fast car. The car has a sleek retro design. The body is a two-door coupe with a front engine and all-wheel-drive. The car later evolved into just the Nissan GT-R which is a modern-day supercar. The car is equipped with an RB26DETT engine. The engine is an Inline-six engine with a base made from cast iron. The engine is a 2.6-liter twin turbo that puts out 276 horsepower. The turbochargers come stock to increase the acceleration of the car greatly and cause a faster spin-up time. The cylinder head is made from aluminum alloy with 4 valves per cylinder, totaling in 24 valves. This is one first all-wheel drive performance cars. The car is a 6-speed stick shift meaning you have to manual shift gears with a clutch. The car was solely made in Hong Kong Japan which results in it being incredibly rare and hard to find one let alone find one (NISMO | MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS). The 1999 Nissan Skyline GT-R R34 has a 0-60 miles per hour time of 5.1 seconds and a quarter mile time of 12.7 seconds making it slightly slower than 10-second cars (Zero To 60 Times). This car was also revolutionary because of a computer in the car called HICAS. HICAS turned on automatically after you reached 50 miles per hour and kept the rear wheels aligned with the front wheels at all times. This allowed them to take tighter turns on hairpin turns and corners (NISMO | MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS).

The skylines as a whole have changed over time with each having a different number. For example, only the Skylines made from 1999-2002 are called Skyline R34s. The first Nissan Skyline GT-R was called the Nissan Skyline GT-R KPGC10. It was designed by a man named Shinichiro Sakurai and overall the car looked more like a muscle car rather than the sleek look of the Skyline R34. This car was made from 1969 to 1972 and then disappeared (PGC10 Nissan Skyline GTR). The car became a rarity and Skylines were not produced again until 1989 with the introduction of the Nissan Skyline GT-R R32. The R32 was just as fast as the R34 and was manufactured until 1994. The R32 was the first R series and the first where it adopted the JDM style. JDM is Japanese Domestic Market and it means a common racing style in Japan, particularly Tokyo. In 1995 the R33 was manufactured. It was the fastest out of all Skylines and my third favorite Nissan of all. It had a 12 second quarter mile time being around a second faster than the R32 and the R34 (Zero To 60 Times). In 1999 The beauty that is the Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R was manufactured. It was the most popular skyline and was manufactured until 2002.

As I previously mentioned the Nissan Skyline quickly made its way into the heart of the JDM. The only car that rivaled it was the infamous Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution, my personal favorite car. The Mitsubishi Evo and the Nissan Skyline ruled the streets in Japan from the 1990s to the early 2000s. The Nissan Skyline was solely manufactured in Japan and because of that reason, they are incredibly rare in America. It is illegal to import the car from Japan to America until 2025 so as of now every Skyline in America is built. Whoever has them has shipped every part one by one to America and then built them by hand (NISMO | MAJOR ACHIEVEMENTS).
