Mind of The Misunderstood

This is the story of the thoughts and feelings of a 16-year-old high school student that feels misunderstood. Everyone has a story and the events and decisions they chose are what write it. What's this boy's story?

He is a mixed boy (black and white) that acts goofy and is not the skinniest, but also not the biggest. He’s smart but doesn’t act like it. He doesn't make the best decision, but he tries to get to school and is planning on going to college for football and fashion design. But, there's a side of him people at school don’t see. The hurt, jealous and worried teenage boy you see, this boy has anger issues and depression both run in the family. His household can be chaotic sometimes with no father figure, autistic 5-year-old brother, mom with the same issues that he has and doesn’t understand him 24/7, and crazy dogs.

Adults don’t understand that everything isn’t the same anymore. Yes, teens now have some things that are easier for us but also there are other things. The world is more violent, you see, this boy doesn’t live in the best neighborhood, so he fears going outside for the last time. A teenage boy shouldn’t have to fear or even think about that, but this world makes it so that he does . Also, we have things that we are forced to do sometimes and that is very stressful. Every kid wants to make their parents or parents proud, and when you don’t know or don’t feel like you're making your parents proud it plays a huge role in their mental health.

This boy wants to be someone people are proud of and know for good reasons. He’s a smart kid that had his rough patch and bad decisions. But his story is still going and changing every time he wakes up. Even if he ends up all alone he plans to get to his goal and prove the people that doubt him wrong. He acts goofy and not very smart at school but that's a fact because he doesn’t want the outside world to see him. It feels embarrassing because the world now makes it so that it’s hard to open up about your emotions, especially as a guy. This boy doesn’t really care about pleasing others but he hates when he’s looked at for the wrong reasons. He wants to make his family proud and not end up like the statistic of black teens in college and being successful.

This is what goes on in the mind of a misunderstood boy.  This boy is me, and my story is not over until I say it is.

This is a piece that I wrote after reading a book called Dear Martin, by Nic Stone.
