Have you ever played a joke on someone?
How about on your whole class?
Two students at CSU Boulder did and boy, did they think it was just hilarious! They plotted to bring in food for their history class on its bring-your-food-to-class day.
Seems pretty normal, huh? Don’t worry it gets better.
Well anyways, these two students, Thomas Ricardo Cunningham, 21, and Mary Elizabeth Essa, 19, brought in brownies, but not just any brownies, these ones were THC- laced brownies, or pot brownies.
Isn’t this just a knee slapping joke at its best?
Since there was only orange juice and “brownies” at the class party, everyone ate the pot brownies unwillingly. At the time of the incident no one knew of the marijuana baked into these delicious treats, so everything was normal, for now.
Eight out of the twelve kids in the class felt ill because of the marijuana. The other four could have had stronger stomachs or could have been used to the drug itself. Three people in the class were hospitalized later that day. One kid was put in the hospital due to a panic attack, after she had consumed the brownies. The other student was admitted to the hospital after telling her parents that she felt as if though she was going to black out. The third person to be hospitalized was the class professor, who reported to be dizzy and that he was dropping in and out of consciousness.
Now back to Thomas and Mary, there is no known connection between the two, yet they are the ones behind the whole mess of things. So far, the two have been charged with second-degree assault and consumption of controlled substances by fraudulent means. No lawsuits from the victims or their parents, have been made, yet. Other lawsuits or felony charges may come, but for now this is all the two need to deal with. Ryan Huff, the CU police spokesman told everyone that “there could be prison time involved in this case.”
Some want the newly passed amendment or the law that allows adults 21 or older to possess a small amount of marijuana for personal uses, to be looked at again. As you should know, Thomas was 21 so by the law of amendment 64, he was allowed to possess a small amount of marijuana. There’s no evidence on how much marijuana was used to make the brownies, so no charges can be made on if Thomas had too much marijuana use.
I believe that what is said on ammendment 64 is true and that it should be re-evaluated because it is ruining innocent peoples lives by either watching it or smelling it. Also, these students lives have been changed because there could be damages left after treatment has been done and it wasn’t even their fault. They wernt the ones who choose for this to happen… All of this is due to the choices made by two students.
What will come in the future is unknown. But, if it was really up to me they would be put away for a long time because what happened to their class mates is truly their fault and theirs only.
The ones who think that Mary and Thomas should be tried as “kids” obviously don’t know the difference between a child and a full blown adult. Thomas was 21, which is the legal drinking age and you don’t see many “kids” in bars hootin’ and hollerin’, as you do when someone is 21. The age of Mary is 19 and that is technically over the age of 18, which is when a child becomes an adult. This makes it a case where, even though Thomas and Mary might have acted out of stupidity, they can, and I hope, not to be tried as adults.

So, what do you think these two should go through?

The choice is yours on what the twos punishment should be, but all I can say is that the two definitely deserves what’s coming to them.
So, I guess all you can say is that Thomas and Mary got there class good, but punishment always catches up to the actions made by careless students.
