Q&A w/ Chicago Artist Andre B.
How old were you when you got started in the entertainment industry?
I was 9 years old when I started in this business. It was of my own interests of wanting to be an actor which lead me to enrollment at the Barbizon modeling school. At the time it was a 15 week course, I received a certificate of graduation and this ultimately opened the doors. I started auditioning for agencies like I.M.T.A.I-POP, John Casablances, & John Robert Powers, this really groomed me for the entertainment industry.
Who inspired you to become what you are now?
There are definitely many people who I've grown to admire. I'm really inspired by the 90's era and the culture. I am inspired by Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, MC hammer, Will Smith, Ciara, and the list goes on. These artists have changed the playing field and the face of music. I aspire to go down in history following the foot steps of the greatest artists around who've motivated me throughout the years.
How does you project affect and relate to youth?
I think it affects them in a very positive way. It give them an outlet of different styles of music, dance, and culture. I feel that I relate to many kids and different levels because I, myself, am still young. I'm 22 years old and I think it gives other young hopefuls a chance to really pursue their dreams. I started out just like them, and I feel that it gives them something to look forward to. They can go out there and push their ambitions and find the sky's the limit.
What would you say to teens thinking about dropping out of school?
The education system is your way to live up to your full potential. I would say do not give up because it will get easier. School is tough, but also rewarding. We are lucky to be able to educate ourselves in the United States, There are so many after-school programs to get involved with that could allow your passions to flourish. For me, that's what makes going to school worth while.
What do you hope to accomplish in the near future?
In the near future I see myself releasing a new single and new press. I hope it's well received. Also, I will soon be working on a new press kit, as well as a reel for the first time, A press kid is material that is used to shop yourself to major recording labels, I plan on continuing with my travels and rocking out with "Hit the Dance Floor". This is my first single and it has been so well received and I thank the Midwest for making it a success.
How do you think your life would be if there was no music?
That is a tough question. Considering I grew up with music I couldn't imagine life without it. All I can say is that my life wouldn't be the same.. I feel it's the real rhythm to our lives and the soundtracks to our movies. Thank god that we have music, and I am so blessed that I've experience the positive affect music can have in someone's life.
If you weren't doing what you're doing now, what profession would you do?
I'm not really sure, because I don't see myself doing anything else. Although, I have interest in the fashion industry.
If asked to be signed would you be willing to move to a different city, state or country? Would you be willing to travel around the world?
Definitely, yes! I would be willing to move and I would be willing to travel. I love other cultures and I love diversity. It would be an amazing experience and a chance to get my music spread throughout the world. That is the biggest blessing any artist could have.
Explain your life and yourself in three words?
Music, passion, & craziness.
What advice would you give to young aspiring entertainers?
There's a few things I'd say to aspiring entertainers. First, be persistent and never give up. The no's will one day turn into yes. I feel you have to be original and steer away from fearing what's different. Be yourself, but bring something new to the table. Be a leader and have confidence in yourself, because you've got be strong. Practice makes perfect, and one day your plans will pan out. Create a strategy and if you work at it long enough you will get better. That's the advice I would give to young entertainers, because it's a rough and tough game. Above all never loose you sense of humor and love what you do.
