My Lucky Shirt
Baseball is a game full of superstitions from your batting ritual to your game day ritual there are many many things baseball players do for good luck on the field. This is the story of what happens if you forget these steps.
One day in March 2019, I had a baseball game. This was just like any ordinary game I woke up ate some cereal made a lunch and was ready for the day. But I felt like there was something I was forgetting when I was packing up my bag. I checked my homework and I checked my lunch and I appeared to have everything I would need. This seemed like it was any normal day, but it truly was not.
When I got to school I finally realized what I thought I had forgotten, it was my lucky baseball shirt. This is the shirt I wore to every single game without fail and I had played the whole season in it. This was the first game I would be missing that shirt. This game was also against the hardest team we would be playing all year, MARY STAR. I was surprisingly looking forward to the game. I can’t explain why but I had a good feeling about that game.
The school day went like any normal day would I went to class spent my time in there, was bored out of my mind. But I was there. Then when we went to change for the game the team looked at me put on some random undershirt and they were all like WHATTTTTTT. People were asking me where my lucky shirt was and what happened to it and I had the same answer for all of them. I just forgot it. They were all so upset at me and said if we lost this game it was my fault.
That’s when I got really nervous. I knew we had a hard team to play and now I was also not wearing my lucky shirt. I drove myself to the game and called my mom on the way. I asked her if she could stop at home and bring my lucky shirt to the game, but she said no because it was too out of the way and there was no such thing as luck anyways. My mom obviously knows little about baseball. Then I had to force myself to walk out of the car dragging myself to the field.
We did our usual warm ups: we ran to center field, came back stretched, and began to throw. When we were throwing was when I noticed something was off. All of my throws were low and to the right. I had absolutely no explanation for this my throws had been fine all season long until this game. Albeit we only played 3 games before this one.
Then the game started we were away so we “got” to bat first. If you don’t know you always want to be the home team in baseball so you can bat last. By the way I’m the lead off batter so to top it all off I have to be the first batter of the game. Guess what I did? I struck out in the first at bat of that game and in my next one too. But I didn’t make any errors so that was a plus I guess. Needless to say I never forgot my lucky shirt again. Ever since that game the first thing I put in my bag is my lucky shirt and we have only lost one game since then and guess what I wasn’t there to wear my lucky shirt.
