Chrysalis
Here’s the thing about being in Grade 12. Transitional years are never easy to deal with. It’s like the moment a butterfly emerges from a chrysalis, right before it learns how to use its wings. Where it falls for a second, and picks itself back up. But the butterfly knows how to fly. It’s born knowing how to fly, even if it doesn’t realize that. We don’t know how to fly. We sit in neat rows for 12 years, and if we try to flap our wings, we realize they aren’t there. You learn that there are some very specific rules to flying. Soaring through the sky isn’t as carefree as you thought. Sometimes older butterflies will try to teach you how to fly — but they’re used to flying through sunny days and clear skies. Today and tomorrow, the forecast calls for rain.
