The Reason I'm On This Earth
I picked up my first fishing pole when I was just 5 years old. We were just going after some little blue gills and perch in a local pond, but hey, you’ve got to start somehow and somewhere. I don’t know if I realized it at that time, but that would be the start of the best thing that ever happened to me. That day I caught “the bug”.”The Bug” is what fisherman who are truly devoted to the lifestyle have that keeps them going through thick and thin come heck or high water.
Some people wonder why I’m able to fish since it can be so boring and others seem to think I’m just not right in the mind. The not right in the mind thing might have some truth to it, but I’ll get to that later in the paper. Some fisherman do what they do for the fun, some for the sport, and some just to pass the time. Me? I like to do it for all of the above. In evening after a big day when my mind is going a million miles a second, I like to go out for the relaxation part of it. On days where I’m targeting something specific, the sport is what calls me to the water and when I just don’t have anything else to do I’m out there to pass the time. What keeps all true anglers coming back is the fun… and the prestige. Anyone can go catch a little catfish, but it takes skill to catch a 50lb tuna or a half-ton shark.
Earlier when I said that the people saying I’m not right in the mind may have some truth to it I wasn’t joking around. I have been told I’m mentally insane to think that I’m going to be able to catch a 15 foot, 800-1000lb hammerhead shark from a kayak. I also forgot to mention that I absolutely love kayak fishing, but that’s not the point. I believe that I was put on this earth to catch some really big fish, but after a few years of doing that, you start to realize that the ultimate goal is to do something that not too many people, if anybody, has done before. So I plan to just that… eventually. Until that day, I’m working up my skills by catching sharks from the beach and large fish with some smaller sharks from the kayak a little ways offshore.
Anyways, this is my way of life. I plan to be fishing all my life and hope to leave a mark on the world that will keep people thinking: “hey, that guy did something awesome in the fishing world” for at least a few years after I’m gone. I’ve had some pretty cool experiences so far in my life with this crazy life-style, but I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. Any true fisherman will tell you that they get a crazy idea in their head and decide that they’ve got to do that before they die. So maybe someday you’ll hear about me catching one big, old, mother of a shark and hopefully with all ten fingers.
